The Apple TV+ series Shrinking Will finally return this fall, continuing the story of Jason Segel’s character Jimmy Laird, and the unorthodox therapy methods he engages in after his wife’s death. Season 2 will begin to unravel the consequences of Laird telling clients exactly what he means, especially what happened at the end of ShrinkingSeason 1 finale, when one of his patients pushed her abusive husband off a cliff. Along with Segel, the show stars veteran actors like Harrison Ford and Ted McGinley along with rising stars like actress Lukita Maxwell.
Before her role as Jimmy’s daughter Alice in ShrinkingMaxwell has starred in several other projects, such as the HBO Max series Generation and Blumhouse Productions horror film Afraid. Her character went through a lot last season, having to deal with not only the death of her mother, but the effect of that death on her father, as well as being rejected after confessing her feelings to her friend Sean due to their age difference. . The tumultuousness will no doubt continue in season 2, considering Jimmy will now also be dealing with his client’s impulsive cliffhanger.

Screen Rant Interviewed Lucita Maxwell to talk about the changes Alice goes through in season 2, what about Alice she tells the most, and her character’s relationships in Shrinkings second season.
The second season of Shrinking sees Alice being “more of a teenager”
Maxwell’s character can now appeal more to her immaturity
Screen Rant: This season deals with the consequences of Jimmy’s unorthodox approach to therapy. Alice does not want to see her father regress. How has Alice’s complex relationship with her dad evolved this season? Shrinking?
Lukita Maxwell: I think in season 1, we see Alice as a rock, a constant, and she’s the one that holds you together the most. I think in season 2 we get to see her be a little bit more of a teenager. She gets to make some mistakes, learn the consequences, try and ask for forgiveness, and that’s her development in season 2.
Speaking of forgiveness, that’s a big theme this season. Can you talk about how that applies to Alice this season?
Lukita Maxwell: We see in season 2 her relationship develop with her friend Summer, played by Rachel Stbington – the brilliant Rachel Stbington – and this is a character who is obviously her age, her peer. We didn’t see that much of their relationship in season 1, and her dynamic with someone her own age who maybe hasn’t gone through—in her mind—how much distress makes her act a certain way toward her friend who maybe has. Not so cool; She learns to ask for forgiveness for her best friend. This is a big one this season, but there is so much more.
Alice will “branch out” more in Shrinking season 2
The character will take on both new growth and new worries
Can you talk about Alice’s friendship with Summer and Connor and how they help or hinder her coping mechanism?
Lukita Maxwell: I think she’s going through grief and interacting with people outside of her little bubble that she was kind of setting up in season 1. Summer and Connor have been constant for her for a long time.
Because she was so close to them growing up as neighbors or best friends for a while, these are the people who are closest to her. I feel like they’re almost easier to hurt, because you have that familiarity.
You described Alice as a rock really in season 1. What aspects of Alice’s character do you find the most relatable or resonate with you personally the most?
Lukita Maxwell: I’d like to say that I’m strong and I’ll get away from any negative energy when I don’t like the vibe, just like, “That’s not the vibe, I’m out.”
Perfect. Now, can you talk about Alice’s relationship with Paul this season and where we see that going?
Lukita Maxwell: At the beginning of season 2, we see them having their sessions, and she’s just really worried about Jimmy. After the chaos of where we left season 1 with his patient Grace, he is potentially at the beginning of a spiral, and she can sense that. She is worried about this, and she brings all her worries about Jimmy to Paul and is trying to get his advice and his insight on this.
