Star Wars shocked viewers when the Ahsoka program revealed that Sabine Wren had become Ahsoka Tano Jedi Padawan following Star Wars Rebelspartly because Sabine never seemed Force-sensitive, but the most confusing aspect of this revelation was the timeline. Ahsoka Star Wars The timeline is relatively well defined, especially when programs like Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi and The Mandalorian continued to flesh out their story long after Star Wars: The Clone Wars. However, Ahsoka’s whereabouts during the original Star Wars trilogy remains relatively unknown.
This adds to the confusion about when Ahsoka could have trained Sabine, mainly because of Star Wars recent retcon about when the Purge of Mandalore happened. Earlier this year, the canon video game Star Wars Outlaws confirmed that the Purge of Mandalore took place a year before the Battle of Endor, in 3 ABY. This not only altered Huyang’s account of the Purge in Ahsokabut it also meant that Ahsoka was training Sabine throughout the original trilogy. Unfortunately, Star Wars changed this somewhat simple timeline once again, making it confusing once again.
The Ahsoka Show Implied That Sabine Blamed Ahsoka For Not Hearing About Mandalore
Evidently, Ahsoka didn’t heed Sabine’s warning
In AhsokaBaylan Skoll referred to Sabine Wren losing her friends and family because her former Jedi Master didn’t trust her. This implies that Sabine anticipated an attack on Mandalore, warned Ahsoka in some way, and was ignored.. Of course, Baylan Skoll is a dark side Force user, which means he’s not above manipulation; he may be furthering the narrative that the Purge of Mandalore was Ahsoka’s fault because it makes Sabine more likely to abandon her former Master and work alongside him and Shin Hati.
This marked the end of Sabine’s training as Ahsoka’s Jedi Padawan.
It’s clear that Baylan’s comments had the desired effect on Sabine, and while this alone doesn’t confirm that Ahsoka ignored Sabine’s warning, it does suggest that Sabine blames her for the Purge. Baylan was taking advantage of a resentment that Sabine already carried. Whether it was actually Ahsoka’s fault or not, this marked the end of Sabine’s time training as Ahsoka’s Jedi Padawan. That’s why the Purge of Mandalore timeline update in Outlaws it’s so meaningful; theoretically, it reveals the exact period in which Ahsoka trained Sabine.
Star Wars Gradually Figured Out When The Purge Happened
Mandalore’s Purge Timing Changed Multiple Times
In Ahsoka episode 8, Huyang said that the Purge of Mandalore happened at the end of the Galactic Civil War, after the Battle of Endor. This would mean that the Purge happened in 4 ABYa discrepancy of 1 year from the most recently given date in Outlaws. While the 1-year difference may seem minimal, it has important implications for Ahsoka’s story and the Star Wars timeline.
Since the Mandalorians were left out of the Galactic Civil War, at least as far as was shown in the original trilogy, the timing of the Purge of Mandalore could help explain his absence, thus filling in a major plot gap. However, whether the purge took place after the war is once again questioned. Now it seems Star Wars did just that – again – based on a new Star Wars the book’s description of Sabine Wren’s training with Ahsoka Tano.
Sabine’s training apparently took place after the Galactic Civil War
A New Star Wars Book Has Made This Timeline Confusing… Again
After it seemed Star Wars had firmly established that the Purge of Mandalore occurred in 3 ABY, at which time Sabine and Ahsoka finished their training, a new Star Wars the book disconcertingly suggests that Sabine was not trained as a Jedi until after the Galactic Civil War. In Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Complete Guide to the Star Wars Galaxywritten by Dan Brooks, Megan Crouse, Amy Richau, Amy Ratcliffe, Brandon Wainerdi, Dan Zehr and Kelly Knox, states:
“After the Galactic Civil War, Ahsoka and Sabine set out to find Ezra. The Empire does not retaliate and the citizens of Lothal return to a peaceful life. For a time, Sabine trains as a Jedi under Ahsoka Tano, but believing she has failed , she returns to a peaceful life on Lothal with her cat Loth Murley.”
This calls into question when Ahsoka and Sabine trained together and perhaps even the timing of the Purge of Mandalore once again.

This also means that the Mandalorians aren’t the only ones who mysteriously disappeared from the war. With the previous timeline, it made sense that Ahsoka wasn’t in the original trilogy because she was probably training Sabine, at least until Return of the Jedi. If Sabine wasn’t training all the time A New Hope and The Empire Strikes BackThis once again raises the question: where was Ahsoka when the galaxy needed her?
In the franchise, Ahsoka is absent from these films because she has not yet been created. Star Wars however, it needs an in-universe explanation for why Ahsoka didn’t participate in the war, especially after Rebels revealed that she had an established history with the Rebellion. Hopefully, Star Wars will soon cover the precise timing of the Purge of Mandalore, Ahsoka’s whereabouts during the original trilogy, and the exact timeline of Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren’s Jedi training.
