Sonic the Hedgehog 3 star Idris Elba talks about making another video game movie with Keanu Reeves. Scheduled to hit theaters on December 20th, the Sonic threequel will feature Reeves as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog, a fan-favorite character from Sonic the Hedgehog video game series that debuted in the franchise in 2001 Sonic Adventure 2. Meanwhile, Elba is returning to express his Sonic the Hedgehog 2 character Knuckles, alongside Ben Schwartz's Sonic and Colleen O'Shaughnessey's Tails.
Talking to Screen speechby Joe Deckelmeier himself at the helm Sonic the Hedgehog 3release date, Elba was asked if he would be interested in reuniting with Reeves in a Cyberpunk 2077 film, and he suggested that if any video game was suitable for a live-action film, it would be CD Projekt Red's take on the dystopian Cyberpunk universe. Excited about the possibility of seeing Reeves' Johnny Silverhand interact with his own characterSolomon Reed, Elba told “Speak it into existence.” Check out their comments below:
Oh man, that's a great question. I think if any movie could do a live-action version, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077]and I think his character and mine together would be, “Wow.” So let's talk about it.
The game's creators have already announced a live-action project
Elba isn't the only one interested in making a live-action adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077and at the end of 2023 the game's creators announced that they had teamed up with the entertainment company Anonymous Content to begin developing such a project. It is said to be set in the same world as the original game and 2023 Phantom Freedom expansion that first introduced the character of Elba, currently the project is still in its early stages, and little else has been revealed since its initial announcement.
However, Elba's willingness to return to the property and play a live-action version of Solomon Reed will likely be good news for fans waiting to hear more about the potential Cyberpunk 2077 film. Having already released the spinoff anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix, This latest endorsement from one of the game's biggest stars bodes well the project's chances.
Our Take on Elba and Reeves Leading the Cyberpunk 2077 Movie
Trying the project without them would be crazy
While it's possible that CD Projekt Red and Anonymous Content's plans for their live-action Cyberpunk 2077 the film may not even include Johnny Silverhand and Solomon Reed, many would do I consider it crazy to attempt any project of this type without any of the characters. A film that sees Elba and Reeves reprise their characters would not only be a boon for established fans, but their involvement would likely attract many more viewers beyond those familiar with the original game.
Furthermore, with Reeves is considered one of the most recognizable faces in the Cyberpunk genrelargely thanks to his work in films such as The Matrix and Mnemonic Johnny, Having him as a potential co-lead would also give the project instant credibility, regardless of his connection to the Cyberpunk 2077 game. In the meantime, however, fans can still see the voices behind Silverhand and Reed face off when Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is released later this month.
