Karate Kid: Legends is an unprecedented crossover

The film's main cast is the first in the franchise

In addition to this image that offers more information about Li Fong's training process, the fact of bringing together the core Karate Kid: Legends brought together in a single frame highlights what an unprecedented event the film really is. This isn't just due to the presence of legacy characters, like the Netflix series Cobra Kai reunited many iconic stars from the original films while following the ongoing stories of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

What it does Legends so special is the fact that Cobra Kai The cast never introduced any characters from the 2010 reboot, which took place in Beijing and followed Mr. Han training 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith). The reboot also never received a sequel, though it grossed $359.1 million against its $40 million budget and earned a 67% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Thus, this is the first time that Jackie Chan returns to the franchise, as well as the first time the broader franchise has included the reboot into its universe in a major way.

While Karate Kid: Legends is not yet set to feature any other characters returning from Cobra KaiIf it becomes a success, a sequel could be greenlit, allowing for more reprisals of legacy characters. This would make the entire franchise truly unite into one universesomething that seems entirely possible considering the fact that the film could capitalize on the nostalgia of its current crop of legacy characters to become a huge hit. This could be the best thing for the franchise, as Cobra Kai is scheduled to end on February 13, 2025.
