Netflix Lonely planetA romantic drama written and directed by Erin BrockovichSusannah Grant, will begin streaming on October 11. The sweet story offers a dash of adventure when famous novel Catherine (played by Great Little Lies star Laura Dern) attends a creative retreat in Morocco to combat her own writer’s block. While there, she gets to know a young businessman named Owen (Liam Hemsworth), whose relationship with his girlfriend begins to deteriorate the more time he spends with Catherine.
Lonely planet is more saccharine than suspense, although the burgeoning affair between its leading characters may at first glance seem different. But the dynamic between Catherine and Owen is sincere and serious, and it soon becomes clear that they bring out the best in each other. The actors also click on the screen, making Lonely planet A very interesting precursor to Hemsworth’s next big Netflix project, taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4.

Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern break down their instant chemistry in Lonely Planet
“I will trust you and no one else to expose and explore these parts of myself and each other.”
Screen Rating: Lonely planet is a very sweet and deceptively simple story, but the audience really needs to buy into the chemistry between your characters – and you brought it in spades. I know you can’t force things, but your interactions felt so natural. Do any of you have any tricks up your sleeve to warm up to costars?
Liam Hemsworth: No tricks. No tricks on this. We had a connection from the moment we met and sat down. I came to this project because Laura is already a part of it; The opportunity to work with Laura was a huge opportunity for me, and I was so excited by it. But when I got into it, I’d heard great things about her. She’d just done a little project with my brother, and he said really great things about her.
When we sat down, it strangely felt like we’ve known each other for a lot more, and it was this instant bond of trust that just evolved during shooting. We never really had to find that relationship; We had that connection and that trust, and it was just easy. It was really fun to be able to experience all the things we did during the shoot. What a gift to be able to work with someone you have a connection with, and not feel like you need to sit down and discuss a lot of things to get to that place. There was just this natural ease between the two of us from the moment we sat down together.
Screen Rant: Laura, Katherine comes with a lot of baggage, both as a celebrated author experiencing writer’s block and as a woman going through a big breakup. What discussions did you and Susannah have about the biggest forces driving you at the beginning of the movie?
Laura Dern: I think what became clear is that when you find the connection and you feel seen, the intimacy is based on the feelings of everything that you’ve carried in your life – not necessarily all the stories.
In a way, Owen gets to meet Catherine like the audience, and I think she really likes that. We saw what Owen and Lily went through and watched the lack of connection and communication dismantle because of how different the people are or how he is not deeply understood. Then there is a person who is completely broken saying: “This is everything to me. I am hiding nothing. This is who I am, and for some reason I will not trust you or anyone else to expose and explore. The parts of myself and each other.” And that was exactly what our experience was, which was incredible.
Filming on location in Morocco was half the appeal of Lonely Planet
“We are just on the ride, the journey, immersed in the culture.”
Screen Rant: The Moroccan setting is another vitally important part of the story, and you have to actually film on location. What are some of your favorite memories while there?
Liam Hemsworth: Many! Chefchaouen was pretty incredible. Schechauen is the Blue City, and we were there for a few days – a week almost, maybe. We are constantly moving to the different locations, some very remote and some busy cities like Marrakesh, and just living and breathing it.
We are just on the ride, the journey, immersed and what not in the culture. It was such an interesting place to shoot, and what a great place to do it with someone like Laura. Old Laura, who is a bloody champion. Just a true legend.
