Baldur’s Gate 3 is famous for so many reasons, from its vast swath of dialogue to its abundance of clever choices that really impact the overall story and vastly change each playthrough. However, modders have had a field day with BG3. These mods can be truly groundbreaking and can increase the overall experience, although not all of them are as valuable as others.
One of the best features of Baldur’s Gate 3 Is its excellent turn-based combat, which balances strategy, free-form decision-making and a variety of abilities, while being extremely approachable for newcomers to the genre. It’s a deeply complex system that’s always fun and intense, making every encounter an epic battle that feels like it could be the last. however, One mod seeks to change this by transforming Baldur’s Gate 3 Combat in something completely differentAnd it is, unfortunately, made all the worse for him, stripping the game of one of its best assets.

It removes one of the best parts of BG3
Modder and YouTuber Tinibike (via VG247) did Released a very early version ofa mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 Called Brawl Which completely transforms the turn-based combat into real-time action battles. This turns it into more of a Diablo-like game, with players using all their skills and attacks as they would in any other isometric action-focused game. It’s an impressive feat, not just because of how it manages to turn BG3 In an almost completely different experience, but because of how much Tinibike has managed to tweak to get it running, at least mostly.
But, while it’s undeniable, Tinibike has done something incredible here, Brawl Removes the finely tuned turn-based combat that is one of Baldur’s Gate 3s best achievements. It’s fair to say that not every turn-based game manages to nail the flow and pacing of its combat, resulting in something that feels sluggish and less engaging than a real-time action experience. The genre has felt quite niche as of late, with only a handful of standout titles attracting a large player base, such as XCOM, Persona 5And Like a dragonWho turned the action pack Yakuza Combat in a modern turn-based affair.
however, BG3 Absolutely nailed every aspect of his combat, ensuring it felt fresh with every engagement, was constantly intense, And encouraged the player to experiment With its range of builds and abilities. It’s easily one of the best turn-based games out there, with so much care taken to make it feel like it has as many endless possibilities as BG3s campaign. Naturally, fans of turn-based combat do not have to download Brawl – It’s still a free fan-made project – and there are many other great mods, including one that adds a whole new game mode to BG3.
The real-time action mod for BG3 aims to make it feel more like BG1 & BG2
The original games did not have strictly turn-based combat
It is important to do that while Baldur’s Gate 3 Follows Larian Studios’ penchant for turn-based combat, the original Baldur’s Gate Games do not have turn-based combat. Instead, they used a real-time with pause model, which allowed players to fight in real-time, using their various abilities, while pausing to have more control over the battlefield and ordering their companions to attack specific enemies or perform certain actions. This is the style of combat the mod of the tiny bike, Brawlis trying to reachBrought Baldur’s Gate 3 Closer to her predecessors.
So far, this has worked well, although there are issues, such as how enemies are more powerful than the player, with minor admissions on the mod’s. github page what they are”Get shellacked by a group of level 2 scrubs.” Of course, it is the nature of mods to transform a game more to the modder’s liking, and in this case, It’s clear Tinibike wanted to see if BG3 Would work with the original Baldur’s Gate Style of combat. That’s not to say it improves BG3 Combat model, but it’s nevertheless incredible what Tinibike has managed to accomplish so far.

It’s refreshing to know that this mod comes from a place of fandom rather than an attempt to get rid of turn-based combat on the misguided idea that it’s an inferior form of combat in games, because that’s not true. Turn-based combat absolutely has its place in video games, and works exceptionally well in the likes of SRPGs such as Fire emblemAnd, of course, in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, while this is an impressive mod that clearly has its audience, it is not one of Baldur’s Gate 3s Best mods for those who enjoy his current turn-based combat.
