If Suits would it have been as good as it was without Mike Ross’s secret, photographic memory trick is a question that Suits: LA is about to respond. While Gabriel Macht will return as Harvey Specter in three episodes of Suits: LAthe upcoming spinoff will follow an entirely new set of characters and will take place, as the title suggests, in Los Angeles rather than New York. Getting a Suits the revival would have been fun, but a new series with new characters set in the same world looks promising.
So far, little has been revealed about Suits: LAThe story of Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell, will have to lead his company in a time of crisis, while ghosts from the past come back to haunt him. Suits: LA will be set in an entertainment law firm, which means its cases and overall tone are expected to differ greatly from the original show. Another important difference between Suits: LA and its predecessor is that, for now, the spinoff doesn’t seem to have a character with secrecy and artifice like Mike Ross.
Suits: LA will prove whether Suits would have worked without Mike’s trick
Suits: LA doesn’t appear to have a character with superpowers like Mike
Suits‘, like most of the early seasons, focused on how unique the character Mike Ross was. Similar to other extraordinary characters on USA Network procedural shows like Adrian Monk and Shawn Spencer, Mike had a unique gift that made him stand out. Thanks to his photographic memory, Mike often won cases where no one else could think of, small details that everyone else would have missed. Although it helped Suits sets itself apart from other legal dramas, Mike’s superpower quickly became tiresome and unrealistic.
Suits it eventually grew beyond Mike’s shtick and became a slightly more grounded legal drama, although the show often wasn’t very accurate in that regard. Still, in the second half of the show, Mike’s photographic memory and even his Harvard secret have become much less important than they used to be. This led to a debate about whether Suits it could have been more or less the same show, even without the “lawyer who doesn’t have a law degree but has an incredible idiot” routine. Suits: LA can finally answer this question if you don’t have a Mike character.
Mike Ross’s secret and gift were important, but Suits was more than that
Suits had a lot more to offer than just Mike Ross and his secret
Suits The biggest cliffhanger of the first season was Mike Ross’s secret. The idea of someone who didn’t even go to college getting into one of New York’s top law firms thanks to a reckless senior partner seemed incredibly fun and made Suits‘very engaging pilot. However, there were just so many times Suits I could do the “Mike wins the case thanks to his genius” part before he got old. Even Mike’s own secret ended up losing its meaning when almost everyone, including Louis, found out about it.
Happily, Suits had more to offer than just Mike’s superpower. One of the reasons the show has lasted so long is because of how compelling its other characters were, including but not limited to Harvey. In hindsight, seeing Harvey “playing men” Winning a case was much more interesting than Mike’s Deus ex machina solutions. Not to mention other characters who stole the show from time to time, like Jessica and Louis. Suits it even managed to continue for two seasons after Mike was written out of the show.
Suits: LA may still be hiding a Mike Ross-like twist for the pilot episode
We don’t know yet what fits: it will be the overarching story of Los Angeles
While nothing so far has indicated that Suits: LA will have its own Mike RossIt’s still too early to say whether the series will have a character with some kind of secret that will set the tone of the series. Suits: LA could very well be just a normal legal drama with no gimmicks or extraordinary characters, which could work considering some of the best Suits the episodes had nothing to do with Mike’s secret or his photographic memory.
The best thing about Suits was how the power dynamics intertwined with the relationships between the characters, which is something that Suits: LA could respond even if its lawyers were totally different from those in Suits. That being said, if Suits: LA is hiding some kind of twist that could be compared to Mike’s fraud at Harvard, it will likely be revealed during the pilot. Hopefully, Suits: LA will be different enough from Suits while also having a comprehensive and exciting story.
