Venom: The Last Dance I’ve finally introduced Knull to Sony’s Spider-Man universe, and some recently revealed concept art has me even more excited about his future appearances. Although he spent most of his time in the shadows – specifically, trapped on the symbiote planet of Klyntar – Knull played a pivotal role as the Venom triple-movie’s string-pulling arch-villain. Happily, Venom: The Last Dance didn’t end in his total defeat, with director Kelly Marcel stating before it hit theaters that he was too important to kill off in the space of a single film.
Marcel is, of course, right about this. Knull is a supernatural god with a power level equivalent to, if not greater than, Marvel’s most powerful cinematic villains. Although Venom and Eddie Brock may have thwarted his plans and seemingly left him trapped on Klyntar at the cost of Venom’s life, the post-credits scene of Venom: The Last Dance confirmed that he will return. This return just got a lot more exciting thanks to a recent reveal that properly matches Knull’s character design with his terrifying power levels.
Venom 3’s Unused Knull Concept Art Offers a Promising Tease of What a Released Knull Could Look Like
Concept Artist Karl Lindberg Revealed Knull’s Initial Designs
Knull’s minimum screen time in Venom: The Last Dance depicted the father of all symbiotes confined to a throne on Klyntar with his head bowed. These scenes were chilling enough thanks to the muted color scheme and Andy Serkis’ sinister voice, but they barely revealed the powerful arch-villain beyond his distinctive long white hair and a flash of his features in the post-credits scene. Fortunately, concept artist Karl Lindberg revealed what Knull was originally intended to look like in an image that was shared by The direct in X.
Comparing this to the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse we saw of Knull in the credits makes me think the filmmakers really adhered to this design closely. with your features. While the film’s Knull was obviously devoid of the red hues that dominate concept art, I’m confident this was a choice designed to convey how the god was in a decidedly dormant state, with the monochromatic color scheme illustrating his current powerlessness. With the response to this concept art being generally quite positive, I’m also confident that Knull’s color will return in full power.
Venom: Knull’s Story of the Last Dance showed Knull at his weakest
Knull was trapped and paralyzed, but he was still very powerful
Knull’s SSU debut was him at his weakest. Confined by his creations to Klyntar, Knull’s only recourse is to command a legion of his other creations, the Xenophageto hunt down what appears to be the universe’s only codex within Venom. Unless there are in fact more codices in the universe, it appears that Knull’s plans were thwarted by quick thinking and the sacrifice of the only symbiote he needed to be released once again. Still, even in his dormant state, Knull has demonstrated himself to be immensely powerful.
Venom’s career at SSU saw him face several symbiotes, the most powerful being the “red“Carnage. Still, Carnage doesn’t compare to the Xenophage, a race whose entire MO is to hunt and destroy symbiotes with horrific efficiency. Knull’s control over an army of these beasts led Venom to the only remaining option available.: the ultimate sacrifice. Not to mention Knull’s apparent ability to generate portals that lead anywhere in the cosmos. If he’s capable of this while in prison, I can’t wait to see him released.
Knull’s Marvel Movie Future Has an Excellent Opportunity to Showcase the Strongest Villain
Knull is capable of destroying Marvel’s most powerful heroes
Despite Venom’s sacrifice, Knull would later assure the audience that this would not be the last we saw of him – directly addressing us to threaten our annihilation. I am, of course, inclined to believe him, as Marcel herself has confirmed his return as a franchise villain on the same level as Thanos. With that established, We haven’t seen a fraction of what Knull is capable ofand it’s safe to assume that Sony will use the King in black comic book series as his main source of inspiration, given the track record established by Knull’s relatively accurate comic book debut.
Suffice to say, Knull’s appearance in Venom: The Last Dance only scratches the surface of what may be about to be released at SSU.
The first issue of this comic shows how Knull was able to overcome the power of several Celestials, some of the most powerful cosmic beings in the Marvel Universe. He quickly goes on to work with Marvel’s most powerful heroes, including Sentry – Marvel’s answer to Superman. Knull envelops the Earth in symbiotes and quickly establishes himself as an insurmountable threat, only to be defeated by his divine opposite: the Enigma Force. Suffice it to say that Knull’s appearance in Venom: The Last Dance it has only scratched the surface of what may be about to be unleashed at SSU.
