Knull’s co-creator, Danny Cates, read the script for Venom: The Last Dance and gave a promising prognosis for the Sony Spider-Verse movie, stating, “This is how a king is treated.” Venom: The Last Dance is slated to release on October 25, 2025, with its subtitle suggesting that it will be the final installment in Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy. This stands to reason because his recently revealed arch-villain, Knull, is the most consequential villain the Sony Spider-Man Universe has seen to date.
According to a promising X post by Danny CatesKnull’s involvement is “So much bigger, and so much more ambitious than you can imagine,” suggesting good things are in store for Knull and the SSU. Given Knull is an eldritch god capable of destroying such Marvel heroes as Sentry (Marvel’s answer to Superman), it not only stands to reason that Knull would be the most Ambitious SSU villain yet, but suggests that Sony is about to kick things up a notch, this could have a significant effect on the future of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise.
Donny Cates’ praise suggests an accurate depiction of Knull
For the creator of a character so effusively loving the script in which they star is high praise indeed. Knull’s other co-creator, Ryan Stegman, recently suggested that he was not consulted about Knull’s use in Venom: The Last Dance. If the same is true for Cates, his acclaim for the script is seemingly not incentivized beyond a genuine hope for the movie to do well and the assurance that Knull is, in fact, as faithful to the comics as he can be.
If this is the case, then Venom: The Last Dance It will truly be a wild ride. The significance of Knull as a villain is at least the same as Thanos of the MCU, which suggests that the SSU may be about to expand its horizons significantly and finally begin to connect its cinematic universe with Knull at its center. Cates’ language may be hyperbolic, but plans for a movie that is more ambitious than comic book movie fans”Ever imagine” must at least look similar to what the Infinity Saga of the MCU managed to pull off.
Moreover, Cates’ assertion that “This is how a king is treated” suggests that Venom: The Last Dance Is not about to run roached over the character. Instead, as fans have started to suspect, Venom: The Last Dance May end in Knull’s victory and Venom’s death. If that’s the case, SSU could be about to release its most consequential move yet, and one that could very well change the course of the franchise for the better.
