What we know about Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad
New mobile game set during season 4 of the HBO series
Game of Thrones: King's Road is set during season 4, meaning Robb Stark's war against the Lannisters ended with the Red Wedding and the North is now controlled by Roose Bolton. Furthermore, Jon Snow has just escaped from the other side of the Wall and is preparing for a massive attack on Castle Black by an army of Wildlings, while Joffrey Baratheon is preparing to marry Margaery Tyrell. Meanwhile, Arya Stark is still traveling with Gregor Clegane, searching for her remaining family.
Based on the game's trailer, the player character is a member of the Night's Watch and is tasked with rallying the support of the Great Houses to combat the White Walkers. The name “Game of Thrones: King's Road” suggests that players will travel the Kingsroad on their journey, encountering most of the major regions of Westeros as a result. It's unclear whether Daenerys will be involved in the new game, as she is still in Essos at this point in the show.
Our opinion: It's about time for a big Game Of Thrones game
New game benefits from working on a completed show
Although we have seen many mobile games tied to Game of Thronesthere hasn't been a really great one yet Game of Thrones video game – even Telltale's release has a mix Metacritic score of 64. Hopefully this changes with Game of Thrones: King's Roadwhich benefits from having a finished show to resolve. The developers know which characters live and die during the show, which should help cultivate an impactful plot without breaking continuity. While we're not sure how mobile devices will handle action-adventure RPGs, Game of Thrones: King's Road we hope the story and gameplay are the first success of a high-end fantasy franchise.
