1999 Kevin Smith film. Dogma returns to home video after several years away. Dogmahistory, including religious themes, caused such controversy that Harvey Weinstein personally bought the film from Disney, which was the parent company of Miramax at the time. The film’s home video release license was then transferred to Sony, and once that license expired, the film’s circulation ceased. For the same reason, Smith’s film is not available to watch on the streaming service.
While appearing on It’s a hashtag showSmith was asked about his future plans Dogma, reporting that the film was purchased by new owners. He also revealed that the new owners of the film asked if he would be interested in touring the film, and he is very excited about it. The director went on tour with some of his other films such as Red State And Clerks III. Both home video release and tour Dogma will probably happen in 2025. Read his full comment below:
“The movie was bought from a guy who had it for years and everything. The company that bought it, we met with them a couple of months ago. They were like, “Would you like to re-release it and tour it?” how do you do this with your films? I said, “100 percent, are you kidding me?” Touring a movie that I know people love and it’s sentimental and nostalgic. We will restore order.” We are now celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2024. We came out in November, so it looks like the move will happen in 2025 and then back in theaters. I’ll walk through it.”
Smith also hinted that since the film is under new ownership, now there is an opportunity to continue Dogmacontinuation story. Read his full comment below:
“Maybe at this point there are sequels, you know, TV versions, in terms of expanding the story, which is something we’ve never been able to do before. So, exciting dude! And all those who worked on it are still viable. I speak? Like damn Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, both still working, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, still spanking, pun intended. So, you know, it will be… it’s possible.”
