With GodzillaGareth Edwards is in charge, Jurassic World Rebirth has a chance to be the best film in the franchise since Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park. Universal hopes to obtain the Jurassic Park series back on track after the bitter disappointment of Jurassic World Dominion. Jurassic World Rebirth has original film writer David Koepp penning the script, a cast of exciting newcomers including Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, and a rapidly approaching release date of July 2, 2025.

After making his feature directorial debut with the low-budget sci-fi thriller MonstersEdwards was tapped by Hollywood to make a monster movie on a much larger scale and with a much bigger budget. Legendary Pictures has hired Edwards to helm the first entry in the MonsterVerse: a new Hollywood revamp of Godzilla. Edwards’ Godzilla was widely praised – it had a much more positive reception than Roland Emmerich’s previous American Godzilla 1998 film, and a much more positive reception than any of the Jurassic Park sequelae.

Edwards’ Godzilla the remake was more in line with Spielberg’s original vision for Jurassic Park than most previous Jurassic World films. The Scary Nothing Jurassic World trilogy increasingly focused on blockbuster spectacle rather than story and character. Domain felt more like a James Bond world adventure than a FrankensteinInspired sci-fi thriller. Godzillaon the other hand, it recovers Spielberg’s sense of admirationand its perfect mix of action and horror. As Jurassic Parkshowed audiences something they had never seen before: a computer-generated CG American Godzilla that looked and moved incredible. Jurassic World Rebirth is in good hands with Edwards.
