Jujutsu Kaisen delivered its most meta chapter ever (but does it work?)

Warning: Contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter #269.Jujutsu Kaisen is nearing its finale, and with that in mind, chapter #269 was one of the funniest chapters yet. Rather than the characters mourning anyone who died or talking about their plans for the future, the characters spend most of the chapter Discuss the final battle against Sukuna and Kenjaku and whether they could have done anything differentlySomething that fans surely love to get into but rarely ever seen in stories like these.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #269 was a surprisingly clinical and matter-of-fact chapter, and partly because of how meta it was. It was one thing for the characters to discuss how the fight went, but with the specific topics everyone discussed, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #269 can be seen as Gege Akutami’s attempt to address some of the most common criticisms people have About Jujutsu Kaisens final arc. This is one of the most meta chapters that a gag manga could produce, but how effective it was was a completely different story.

Jujutsu Kaisen addresses the biggest problems with the final arc

The characters almost immediately respond to fan criticism

one of The main topics of discussion around Jujutsu Kaisens final battle Is whether it made more sense for Maki to go after Kenjaku as opposed to Yuta. However, not only was it reiterated that only Yuta could have dealt with any curses released after Kenjaku’s death, but it was also brought up that Tsukuna would have taken things more seriously with Yuta around, so Yuta not immediately fighting Tsukona was a big part. Why did the fight go so well?

The idea of Having Inumaki and Higuruma work together was also shot down by pointing out how Inumaki would die from retreating, Yuuji’s cursed tool gauntlets were acknowledged as not necessary for hiding his missing fingers, and it was even suggested that Tsukune’s cursed energy made it difficult for Todo to close People with Boogie Woogie.

The points and others made by the characters make it clear that Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #269 was a meta-commentary on the problems people had with the final battleAnd overall, it was interesting for a manga to do something like this.

Takaba against a backdrop of Kenjaku and Takaba facing each other

Even with all the time Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #269 spent on meta-commentary, it still either missed some criticisms or just had a strange way of handling them. While some alternative plans were discussed, it ignored ideas like using Boogie Woogie in conjunction with Higuruma’s executioner sword or pitting the overpowered nature of Takaba’s comedian against Sukuna, both of which were ideas constantly brought up in the final arc.

Because of that, it feels like Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #269’s meta-commentary ends up pretty empty For the points it lacks, which makes it all the more difficult to take it seriously. What also made the meta-comment weird is how much it repeated ideas people already knew about. Yuta, for example, has already admitted that he followed Kenjaku just because he wanted to be the one to kill him, and the point that Miguel and Laru had to show up before was explained in the chapter where they showed up.

These points were addressed only to the audience and not the characters. This means that Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #269 wasted time addressing points that were already covered, instead of delving deeper into the in-story aftermath of the battle against Sukuna or giving characters and secondary storylines the closure they needed.

It feels strange to waste time with few chapters left in the series

The biggest problem with Jujutsu Kaisen Devoting an entire chapter to meta-commentary, however, comes from how late in the series it is happening. There are only two chapters left until now Jujutsu Kaisens finale, and even with a lot of story threads left to wrap up, one of the few remaining chapters is spent doing little more than addressing points that no one expected to be addressed. Jujutsu Kaisens meta-commentary comes at the expense of time that could be spent providing closure for the storyAnd that’s part of why it doesn’t work as well as it should.

While it is, in theory, a good idea for Gege Akutami to address some of the issues people have with the final arc, among some of the more notable points that were missed, the strange repetition of Some thoughts and the overall poor timing of it. everyone, Jujutsu Kaisen In the end, his meta-commentary could not be delivered in a satisfactory mannerWhich does not do much to remove the criticism of his final arc. Ideally, the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga will still end on a high note, but the execution of chapter #269 shows that it won’t be without its problems, no matter what.
