Chris Evans returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Avengers: Judgment Day. Evans is one of the biggest names in the MCU, having played Captain America in at least one film per year from 2011 to 2019. Steve Rogers retired from his superhero role in Avengers: Endgamebut after leading some of the MCU's best films, Evans recently returned to the franchise as another character. Evans played Johnny Storm in Deadpool and Wolverinereprising his role in the Fantastic Four films of the 2000s. Now, the star returns to the MCU for the second time, rejoining Marvel Studios' Avengers franchise.
According to The wrap, Chris Evans has joined the cast of Avengers: Judgment Day on an undisclosed paper. The report states which character the actor will play and what role he will have in the Avengers: Judgment Daythe story has not yet been revealed. Evans' team did not respond when asked about the news. Avengers: Judgment Day will reunite Evans with Robert Downey Jr., who plays Doctor Doom in the upcoming film. The wrap mentions that “is returning to Marvel as a variant of Tony Stark,” so it remains to be seen whether Doctor Doom will follow this path.
What Chris Evans' Avengers: Doomsday Casting Means
The MCU's two biggest stars are back
It's no secret that Marvel Studios faced problems during the Multiverse Saga. Most of the problem was that the MCU lost its two biggest characters, Captain America and Iron Man, in Avengers: Endgame. However, with Marvel now revamping its TV division and pivoting its films toward major franchises and characters, the studio is on a better path. Adding to this, Evans returned for a scene-stealing role in Deadpool and Wolverinewith Downey becoming the new main villain of the Multiverse Saga as Doctor Doom. Things are back in place for Marvel.
With Chris Evans joining Avengers: Judgment Daythe studio continues its comeback in 2024. Evans' star power will certainly help build excitement for the next Avengers film, and the actor could play a few different roles. The easy choice would be Captain America, who could be a multiverse variant or the MCU's original Steve Rogers, like Marvel Comics set a precedent for making older Steve young again. Evans could also return as another version of the Human Torch. However, his most interesting role would be as a villain, perhaps Hydra's Steve Rogers, fitting the pattern of Downey's Doctor Doom casting.
Our Take on Chris Evans' Avengers: Doomsday Cast
The next Avengers movie just got even more exciting
Although we still don't know who Evans will play Avengers: Judgment DayThe mere fact that he is back in the franchise is reason to celebrate. Evans was a big part of the Avengers' success, and in Deadpool and Wolverinethe actor has cemented that he can deliver fan-favorite performances as characters other than Captain America. I'm excited to see him opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the MCU again, with Avengers: Judgment Day also reuniting Evans with the directors of the Captain America franchise, the Russo Brothers and scribe Stephen McFeely. Everything is ready for Avengers: Judgment Day to succeed with Chris Evans.
How Chris Evans Could Return in Avengers: Judgment Day
MCU Actor Has Mysterious Role
With Chris Evans Avengers: Judgment Day The role has not been revealed at this time, there is room for speculation about which character he could play in the highly anticipated MCU film. Evans' Captain America was still alive when he was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. As such, the new Earth's Mightiest Heroes movie could see The new Avengers ask Old Steve Rogers for guidance against Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. There is also a chance that Avengers: Judgment Day will go back in time to Steve Rogers and make him young again, although Evans could also play a multiverse variant of Captain America.

After delivering a fan-favorite performance as the Human Torch in Deadpool and WolverineEvans could play Johnny Storm once again in Avengers: Judgment Day. Although the Evans variant died in the 2024 MCU film, the character was notably different from Evans' version of Johnny from the 2000s Fantastic Four films, with Deadpool and WolverineThe R rating influences this. As such, Avengers: Judgment Day could reveal this Evans' original Johnny Storm is still alivewith Marvel potentially using the film's multiversal storyline to bring him back alongside the rest of the 2000s Fantastic Four cast, something fans have been asking to see.
There's also a chance Evans could appear in Avengers: Doomsday in a new MCU role.
With Robert Downey Jr. now playing a villain, Doctor Doom, Evans could also go that route. Since then Avengers: Endgame Teased Marvel Comics' Evil Captain America Hydra Plot when Steve Rogers said “Hail Hydra“a pivotal moment in the comic book event, fans were hoping that Evans would play this variant of the character. There is also a chance that Evans could appear in Avengers: Judgment Day in a new MCU role. Just like RDJ as Doom, Evans could play a major villain like Magneto or Norman Osborn, although heroes like Cyclops would also work for Avengers: Judgment Day.
Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth Avengers film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will bring together heroes, new and old, to face Victor von Doom – played by the returned Robert DOwney Jr.. Avengers 5 will also mark the beginning of phase 6 of the MCU.
