Chris Evans' Steve Rogers didn't die at the end of the game
Marvel Comics has already done what the MCU could do
Unlike Downey Jr., Evans could return as his original MCU character rather than playing a new one. After all, Captain America didn't die in Avengers: Endgame. While Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed themselves in the film so the MCU heroes could defeat Thanos, Steve Rogers simply decided to stay in the past with Peggy Carteraging and later appearing in the present to make Sam Wilson the new Captain America. Chris Evans has made many comments about returning to the MCU over the years, indicating what his stance is when it comes to playing Captain America again.
Talking to HQ In September 2023, Chris Evans revealed he would “never say Never“to play Captain America againas long as it didn't feel like a money grab and was connected to his original portrayal. Evans also commented at C2E2 in Chicago that April about returning as a hero, and the actor agreed that Captain America still has future potential, saying: “I think there are more Steve Rogers stories to tell,” but Evans reiterated that the role was special to him and so he was afraid to do anything that might get in the way of Steve Rogers’ Marvel golden run.
Marvel Comics also shows a way to age Steve and make Evans the young Captain America again, which the MCU could do later Avengers: Endgame made Ant-Man age due to time travel.
When it comes to specifically playing Old Man Steve Rogers, the MCU actor has yet to comment on it. However, it could be a great way for him to return to a leadership role in Avengers: Judgment Day while Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, who is also reportedly in the filmcontinues as Captain America. The older Steve could play the role of SHIELD statesman or something similar, helping coordinate the film's many heroes. Marvel Comics also shows a way to age Steve and make Evans the young Captain America again, which the MCU could do later Avengers: Endgame made Ant-Man age due to time travel.
The MCU's multiverse saga makes a Steve Rogers variant possible
There's a very popular suggestion about who Evans could portray
While the MCU's original Steve Rogers is likely still alive, just old, the Multiverse Saga allows Evans to return as a younger version of the character from another universe. This way, Steve Rogers' perfect journey and ending in the MCU would remain untouchedwhile Evans could appear in Avengers: Judgment Day and possibly other projects. While there's a chance that a multiverse role for Evans could include another hero version of Captain America, the most requested variant of Steve Rogers for the actor to play is Hydra's Captain America from the comics. The MCU has even teased this storyline before.

As such, Evans has a wide variety of Marvel characters available to him. If he doesn't return as Captain America, the easiest answer to who he could play is Johnny Storm. Evans stole every scene he was in Deadpool and Wolverineand he could appear with the 2000s Fantastic Four cast as the Human Torch.
However, Evans could also end up following Downey's lead and playing a Marvel character he's never played before. If the actor also plays a major Marvel Comics villain, like RDJ, then some of the roles Evans could bring to life include Magneto, Norman Osborn and Mephisto. All characters share some form of connection to existing MCU heroes or players rumored to debut in the near future.
