For FX fans FargoTaylor Sheridan’s new series is exciting for several reasons. Billy Bob Thornton, who played Lorne Malvo amazingly in Season 1, is the leader of Landman. Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a crisis executive at an oil company who manages several situations that disrupt the flow of production. Meanwhile, Jon Hamm plays Monty Miller, a Texas oil tycoon and Tommy’s boss. As Fargo fans know well, these actors are phenomenal when combined with crisp dialogue and other talented cast members to share the screen with, and Landman provides both.

Among the best seasons of Fargothe first season with Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman is still near the top, with Lorne Malvo standing out as perhaps the most fascinating character in the entire series. He is not as prominent in Landman even when he was Fargobut his character is compelling and he makes the most of every scene he’s in. Monty Miller seems a little less evil than Roy Tillman, at least on the outside, but he still fulfills an archetype similar to that of a powerful character who bows to no one.
