Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz will star in their fourth film together, Day drinkerof the producers of John Wick franchise. The two actors have shared the big screen three times so far, in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Kenneth Branagh Murder on the Orient Express. Although his films haven’t resonated strongly with critics – his highest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes is Murder on the Orient Express with a score of 60% – they made $1.1 billion at the global box office. Most of this gross value comes from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

What this means for day drinkers
This could be Depp’s return to Hollywood
Day drinker is not only the fourth film starring Depp and Cruz, but also the highest-profile film for Depp since his abrupt and tumultuous break from Hollywood. This in itself already makes the production anxious, possibly intriguing both Depp’s fans and critics. One of his most recent films, 2023 Joan du Barrywhere he played Louis XV, he was not so well received by critics. Rant’ ScreenBen Gibbons himself gave Joan du Barry three stars. It currently has a 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 95% from viewers, indicating There is still interest in films starring Depp.
The talent behind Day drinker might be enough to entice viewers to check out the project. Alongside Depp and Cruz, Webb and the producers of John Wick are solid names to attach. Webb proved its potential with 500 days of summerand was able to translate these talents into the now beloved Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield. Dean has also proven his ability to handle business concepts with Fast and The War of Tomorrow.
Our Take on the Day Drinker
The project has promise
As a Webb fan, I’m looking forward to seeing how Day drinker ends. 500 days of summer was a brilliantly directed film, and although I think it lost its balance a little with The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, those movies were at least still enjoyable. So far, Day drinker looks like an interesting concept with considerable talent in front of and behind the camera, and since it’s not a huge piece of IP, I’m hopeful the production will be good for Webb, Depp and Cruz.
