What this means for the Fountain of Youth
It's a more modern story in the Indiana Jones style
Ritchie described Fountain of Youth like a story “In the style of Indiana Jones, but contemporary.” This approach shines through in the first images that show Luke, Charlotte and the other characters investigating ancient ruins and traveling the world in search of mythical treasure. Like Indy, Ritchie jokes about it Lucas and Charlotte “both come from a history of archaeological efforts”, although they may have different motivations than Harrison Ford's iconic character.
Guy Ritchie's best films tend to be in the action and adventure genres. Fountain of Youth it fills a new niche for Ritchie in these genres and has the potential to become the director's next blockbuster. The intriguing opening images contains familiar elements of Indiana Jonesstyle adventures at the same time that it has a more modern feel, especially in the image of Luke, Charlotte and the characters played by Gleeson, Ejogo and Alonso surrounded by technology. Ritchie's most recent films have received mixed responses, but Fountain of Youth may have more universal appeal.
Our opinion on the first images of the Fountain of Youth
Fountain of Youth looks like a fun adventure movie
Ritchie is already one of the most entertaining directors in Hollywood. A modernized Indiana Jones adventure featuring the star power of Krasinski, Portman and Tucci sounds and feels a perfect project for Ritchie that could be his most popular film in years. Krasinski describes Lucas as “it's not about standing still” and Portman describes Charlotte as “a woman who is finding her wildness again.” This seems like the recipe for a delightful dynamic that could cement Luke and Charlotte among Guy Ritchie's all-time best characters in Fountain of Youth.
