Introduction of Robotnik
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
When Doctor Robotnik is first introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog it is presented in a bombastic way. Not only is he driven around, surrounded by a fleet of cars, but Robotnik immediately takes control of the situation from the military already there. Not only that, but he, along with Agent Stone, immediately displayed the firepower at their disposal with Robotnik's army of egg-shaped drones.

Robotnik survived the accident
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
At the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2Robotnik's fate was uncertain. Although he was pronounced dead at the scene after his giant robot was destroyed by Super Sonic, Agent Stone was shown to have escaped the wreckage unharmed, leaving the door open for Robotnik's return. When Sonic the Hedgehog 3 released, he did just that, looking depressed with regrown hair.
However, as the scene progresses and Robotnik initially decides to join Sonic and his friends, he once again finds himself looking like the crazy doctor fans know and love. Ivo Robotnik dances with his grandfather
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is unique among Jim Carrey's performances in the franchise's films, as he not only plays the character of Ivo Robotnik, but also his grandfather Gerald Robotnik. The two interact at length throughout the film, giving fans twice as much Jim Carrey and even more laughs. This is especially evident when the two break into GUN headquarters, facing a laser grid along the way.
With Ivo's genius, he made jumpsuits for the two of them that make the lasers completely harmless. With that accomplished, the two spend their time trespassing rather than dancing among the lights in a funny dance scene that finds Jim Carrey essentially dancing with himself. It's silly but not out of place, offering a fun break from the tension of the rest of the film.

Robotnik grabs Agent Stone by the jaw
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Doctor Robotnik has never been known as someone who respects others' personal space, and Agent Stone is no exception. In a shocking moment that appears in the first Sonic film, Robotnik takes out his frustration upon facing his first defeat to Sonic, telling Stone to open his mouth. Robotnik then grabs Stone by the chin and drags him forward before continuing to talk to him.
This moment, which wasn't in the original script, is perfect to show what kind of person Robotnik is, even with Agent Stone. While Stone came to check if he was okay, Robotnik was very concerned with making sure Sonic didn't escape. The scene itself is unique, elaborating the bond between the characters presented.

Robotnik uses Sonic's power against him
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
In the climax of the first film in the franchise, Doctor Robotnik finally unleashes all the power he harnessed from one of Sonic's feathers. He uses it to power his ship, allowing him to move as fast as Sonic can run. The resulting scene is an incredible worldwide chase, with Robotnik following Sonic through different locations, including large pyramids and along the Great Wall of China.
Robotnik taunts Sonic during the chase and consistently keeps up with him. Carrey himself maintains this steely composure, emphasizing the focus Robotnik has as he pursues Sonic. Even now, in the middle of a chase, he continues to notice how much smarter he is than Sonic, a clear arrogance in Carrey's performance.

Eggman creates a giant robot using the Master Emerald
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
In an incredible twist near the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Eggman takes on the power of the Master Emerald and becomes nearly unstoppable. When he is confronted by the military, he is not intimidated at all. He uses his new powers to take their vehicles, as well as other mechanical parts in the area, to create a huge robot in his own image.
Not only is it fun to watch Jim Carrey fly as the machine is built, but his maniacal laugh and certainty of his success contribute to the character's vile nature. The entire scene is grand, as is the fight that follows. It's still perfect that Carrey gives such a great performance, bringing the video game character to life in a massive way.

Robotnik appears with his classic look
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
One of the criticisms leveled at Robotnik upon seeing promotional material for the first film was that he didn't look much like Eggman in the video games. Not only did he have hair, but his mustache was quite small instead of being the main feature of his face. This is completely rectified in the film's end credits scene, which shows Robotnik actually becoming Eggman for the first time.
Not only is his head shaved, but his mustache has also grown. Jim Carrey even changes his voice a bit to have more of the grit that is so characteristic of his video game performances. It adds history and flavor to the transformation, giving a backdrop to the elements of Eggman's character that made him so iconic.

Deceiving Knuckles and gaining the power of the Master Emerald
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
Robotnik's manipulation of Knuckles the Echidna climaxes in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with everything culminating when he betrays him and takes the Master Emerald for himself. He does this at the temple, using the distraction from his fight with Sonic to grab the jewel and escape. However, he doesn't leave without delivering an incredible monologue that is so characteristic of Robotnik as a character.
As Carrey delivers his monologue about the dangers of letting people get close, there's a certain passion in his words. It's clear that Robotnik believes these words, even if he is somewhat of a hypocrite towards Agent Stone. It's the perfect cap to what appears to be a victory, with Robotnik absorbing the power of the Master Emerald and becoming supposedly unstoppable.

It's then that he takes matters into his own hands, rebelling against Gerald and saving the world, destroying the moon in the process. He seemingly sacrifices his life in this effort, with Carrey giving an emotional and moving speech to Stone about how he was the only person who cared about him, making this moment a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 the best moment of Jim Carrey's time as Doctor Robotnik.
