A Nexon developer confirmed that The first descendant will soon be addressed with the addition of jiggle physics. The first descendant is a free title from Nexon where characters jump, loot and shoot to help save humanity from certain destruction. The game has a growing selection of characters to play as, each offering a different play style and aesthetic.
All the action of the fast-paced title will soon be enhanced thanks to the implementation of realistic body movements, i.e. jiggle physics. According to Video gamerNexon representative TFD_PD_Lee confirmed on Discord that the much-requested feature will soon be added to the game. No specific release window was shared for the implementation of this detail, which many felt was missing from the game. However, Season 2 arrives on December 5th with new characters, so players will be able to see the changes sooner rather than later.
The last descendant will have the option to turn Jiggle Physics on or off
The feature will be optional, according to the developers
Aside from the obvious reasons why someone might want a game element like this implemented, Leaving out realistic body movements can make the character’s movements appear stiff and unnatural. That said, jiggle physics is not a feature that all players want to be present in their games.
Fortunately for those not interested in the feature, Nexon is compensating players whether they are active or not. According to the Discord representative, Nexon will add the option to enable or disable jiggle physics as they wish. The option will be added because the feature was not present from the beginning, so “offering a toggle option for players to choose from seems appropriate.“
Our Take: Do We Really Need a “Jiggle Physics” Feature?
At least Nexon is giving players an option
The representation of female anatomy in video games has changed a lot since the early days of Lara Croft and her polygonal twin companions. As video games have become more realistic, developers have, of course, applied this element of realism to every part of their games. In many cases, this was done tastefully and with great results. In some, however, the idea is still taken to the extreme, resulting in some ridiculous and exaggerated examples of “oscillating physics”.
It’s gotten to the point where it’s more interesting when a game no include the feature from the beginning. I appreciate Nexon’s choice to disable the feature, as it’s definitely a matter of preference. Ultimately, I’m sure Nexon’s time was better spent developing really important elements of The first descendant instead of implementing such a frivolous element despite the game’s mixed reviews.
