Tom Selleck Jesse Stone and Jack Reacher have been compared to each other, but there’s a line the former would never cross. Before the arrival of Blue Bloodthe Jesse Stone TV movies kept Selleck busy. He made nine registrations between 2005 and 2015, although with Blue Blood ending there is a renewed conversation about Jesse Stone 10. On the surface, Stone and Jack Reacher don’t seem to have much in common – but looks can be deceiving.
Reacher is a burly, often monosyllabic brute who wanders around America and often gets into trouble, while Stone is a 60-year-old alcoholic police chief who lives in a small Massachusetts town that attracts a lot of crime. One big similarity is that both men want justice to be served – and they will break the rules to make it happen. Reacher is typically more direct in this regard (including the book where he hugs a man to death), but Stone typically creates situations where the bad guys are forced into confrontations with him.
Stone Cold’s ending shows the line Jesse Stone won’t cross
Jesse Stone’s first film highlights that he doesn’t care about the law
Node Jesse Stone books, the character is a good 20 years younger than Selleck, but the star liked the character so much that he signed on to Cold Stone. He also refuses to take Brianna’s gun when Stone orders him to and as the boss visibly struggles with the choice. Jesse will not cross the line of executing an unarmed man.
Jack Reacher would have no problem crossing the Jesse Stone line
Reacher would have taken care of the assassins much faster
Stone may go straight to the limit, but ultimately he doesn’t consider himself above the law. This is an area where Stone and Reacher differ, as the latter would have shot both assassins without a moment’s hesitation. or repentance. Typically, Reacher tries to avoid getting involved in other people’s problems, but when that happens, there are few rules he will obey. He has no problem killing to defend himself or if he feels the other person “deserves” it.

In case of Cold Stonethe Lincolns murder people just for the visceral thrill and also feel like they’re smarter than everyone else – including Stone. If Reacher had found the duo, the notion of a black or white line simply wouldn’t apply; he would have killed themand probably took a bus out of town or went to a restaurant for coffee and pancakes.
Jesse Stone and Jack Reacher still have a lot in common
It’s easy to see a crossover between Reacher and Stone
Jesse Stone is a character who struggles with his many demons and struggles with the notion of right and wrong. Unlike Stone, Reacher has no inner demons to speak of.and his thoughts on justice are intensely simple. Despite this, Stone and Reacher have a lot in common. They both love dogs and coffee, have surprisingly active love lives despite their problems, and are excellent shots with guns. Although Jesse has limits on how far he is willing to go, like Reacher, he will still stretch the limits to ensure the guilty are punished.
Both Reacher and Stone also have in common that they are great detectives and can read patterns or behaviors that others wouldn’t notice.
In everything since Cold Stone to Lost InnocentsJesse will lure the villain of the week into a confrontation this will justify your use of lethal force. He is even criticized for this recurring habit in the fifth inning, Thin Ice – which leads him to choose decidedly less lethal means in the end. Reacher, naturally, is more direct in its approach. Both characters also have in common the fact that they are great detectives and can read patterns or behaviors that others would not notice.
It’s obvious who would win in a fight, but it’s easy to imagine that the two would become allies if they crossed paths. With the popularity of Amazon Reach and other detective shows like Boschis the perfect time for Selleck to put together a new installment of Jesse Stone. There’s clearly a big audience for these crime shows that deal in dark shades of gray, with very flawed protagonists trying to do the right thing in difficult circumstances.
