Almost a decade later Batman v. Superman: Dawn of JusticeJesse Eisenberg is opening up about his time as Superman's archenemy. The actor debuted his unique take on the businessman and scientific genius in the aforementioned film and reprized his role in both the theatrical release of Justice League and Zach Snyder's Justice League.
In a recent appearance on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepherd (through IndieWire), Eisenberg discussed the reception of his Lex Luthor and the film in general: “I was in that 'Batman' movie and the 'Batman' movie was so poorly received, and I was so poorly received – I've never said this before and it's kind of embarrassing to admit – but I really think it hurt my career. in a real way because I was poorly received in something so public.” He went on to explain how being in a film that was widely distributed and was perceived as bad affected him personally.
Although the actor had “I've been in poorly received things that just don't see the light of day,” Batman v Superman a wider release meant it was harder to escape its impact. Eisenberg explained: “For the most part, no one knows, but this was so public, and I don't read notices, reviews, film press or anything, so I didn't know how poorly it was received.” The actor clarified that “if [an actor is] in a huge, huge, not seen as good movie, the people who are choosing who to put in the movie next are simply not going to select” they.
