Blumhouse has a wide 2025 slate for horror fans to enjoy

“It’s easy to make 10 movies, but it’s hard to make 10 good movies.”

Christopher Abbott looks distressed in Wolf Man 2024

Screen Rant: What a huge year coming up for Blumhouse! Ten movies next year.

Jason Blum: Can you believe it? I know we have 10 movies coming out next year. We have been working on the movies for a long time. I have allowed them to speak individually, but not together until now. Merger with Atomic Monster is probably the biggest thing to happen to Blumhouse in the history of the company. Indeed. That was the most important thing.

And now the combined companies, we have Wolf Man, we have DROP, we have The Woman in the Yard, we have M2Gun 2.0, we have Black Phone 2, we have Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. And on the atomic side they . They have Mortal Kombat 2, they have The Conjuring 4, and they have this movie called The Monkey.

And the last movie is a movie we did with Paul Greengrass called The Lost Bus. And so we have 10 titles now. It is easy to make 10 movies, but it is difficult to make 10 good movies. So at the end of next year you’ll have to tell us if we’re successful or not, but this is our biggest year ever, and I’m really excited about it.

Screen Rant: How difficult was it for you to decide what to show or talk about from which title today?

Jason Blum: Well, I always want to show everything. But the filmmakers and the marketing departments don’t seem to put me in charge because I would just show all 10 movies because I’m so excited. So I don’t really pick and choose as much. I’m just always like, please, let’s show the fans as much as we can. And that’s what we did.

DROP details how terrifying technology can be

“It doesn’t give you a second to think about anything else.”

Screen Rant: That Fall Trailer is great. It’s really terrifying because it can actually happen.

Jason Blum: Yes. Your phone is terrible. Unfriended was a movie about technology being scary, so we’ve talked about that before. But this is the 2024 version.

Screen Rant: There’s a Sabrina Carpenter song in this trailer. What was it like to get your permission for this?

Jason Blum: I’m not involved in that. I was glad they got her permission. I mean, she was obviously paid. But I’m glad that we paid you.

Screen Rant: What can you do? Fall?

Jason Blum: It’s a real ride in the old-fashioned sense. I saw this movie for the first time in August. I saw it at my house with my wife. And when you see a movie in the early stage, I come with lower expectations because the movie is not yet. And I sat down, and it was over before it began. It doesn’t give you a second to think about anything else. And I really give it to Megan and Chris. They just did a great job on this movie. So it’s a real, real ride.

Blumhouse has several original films in 2025

This slate includes The Lost Bus, Wolf Man and many more.

Screen Rant: How about The Lost Bus?

Jason Blum: The Lost Bus is a movie I made with Paul Greengrass, and a movie I produced with Jamie Lee Curtis. After Halloween, we got a first look at Jamie Lee Curtis, and she’s been a prolific, incredible producer for us. She brought us Scarpetta, which we’re about to shoot for Amazon with Nicole Kidman. She brought us the show called The Sticky, which we already shot about maple syrup, and she brought us the incredible true story of the bus driver who saved all the kids from the fires in Northern California. Paul Greengrass made an amazing movie. It is finished and it will come out next year.

Screen Rant: The Wolf man Trailer is great.

Jason Blum: Well, what I wanted to do with Wolf Man, with Invisible Man, is to go back to the old school monsters, which is not trying to make for mass movies, but hardcore or scary like F. * CC movies. I think that’s what Leigh Whannell did with Invisible Man, and I think he did it again with Wolf Man. It just makes it super grounded, super scary. It’s gory, it’s bloody and it’s intense. It’s a terrible bloody fiesta. It’s deep.

Long anticipated Blumhouse sequels are finally coming

Fans are highly anticipated in M3gan 2.0, The Black Phone 2 and Five Nights At Freddy’s 2.

M3GAN looks shiny in M3GAN

Screen Rant: What can you do? Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

Jason Blum: All I can talk about is the poster. Otherwise Scott will have me executed.

Screen Rant: How about M3gan 2.0?

Jason Blum: We just finished filming. Allison Williams was here today on the panel as you saw, and we have Gerard Johnstone directing again and producing Atomic Monster. I am very happy with this movie, very happy with it. I haven’t seen it cut together yet, but I’ve seen dailies, of course. And it’s great.

Screen Rant: You dressed as M3gan at the premiere. Will you do it again for these M3gan 2.0 Premiere?

Jason Bloom: If I get permission. I like to get dressed every day and the people who work for me say, you can’t do that. It’s too weird. So we will see. But I will really push to be M3gan again.

Screen Rant: Can you tease? The Black Phone 2?

Jason Blum: The Black Phone is obviously not a movie you would make a sequel to. I would never make the sequel to Black Phone, even if Scott said, I’ll produce it, and Ethan said, I’ll produce it. I wouldn’t have done it unless Scott was directing it and Scott and Cargill were going to write 2. I was very happy to get an incoming call from them after the movie, after a while going by saying, “I think we have More to the story to tell.” I was like, “That’s great news.” I didn’t think we would make a sequel. I was very happy about that.

Screen Rant: Blumhouse has a lot of great sequels in the works.

Jason Blum: People complain about sequels, but that’s what people like to go see. There are some exceptions, but if you look at Terrifier, you look at Smile 2, there was one original horror movie that broke out that whole year, and there were four or five sequel horror movies that broke out. So, despite the fact that people always beat the table for originals, and we still make originals, people seem to go to sequels more than they go to originals.

M3gan was great. Coming out was great. You can’t have sequels without originals. You can’t have sequels without really good originals. You’ve got to start somewhere. So hopefully there will be a Wolf Man 2, a DROP 2, a woman in the yard 2, we’ll see.

The hilariously titled SoulM8te is currently filming in Ireland.

M3gan The doll hooks up to some kind of machine in M3gan

Screen Rant: How did that feel for you? m3gan Resonates with so many different ages?

Jason Blum: It’s really fun. We had it with Get Out, we had it with Paranormal Activity. I’ve been lucky enough to have it a few times, but when you do a movie that really, when SNL does a sketch or the Academy Awards do a sketch of your movie, you’ve really impacted culture in a way that only theatrical movies can. Do. And it’s very, very fun. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a lot of fun.

Screen Rant: Can you say anything about the M3gan spinoff, 8th soul?

Jason Bloom: Yes. We are shooting this now. James Wan and Ingrid are over there now overseeing the movie in Ireland, and yes, I mean hopefully, there will be an M3gan universe. We will see.

It’s deep.

Mike Flanagan The Exorcist must be really scary

“Today’s The Exorcist basically has to be the scariest movie ever made.”

Linda Blair as Regan in The Exorcist

Screen Rant: What can you tease about Mike Flanagan The Exorcist?

Jason Blum: I can say the tricky thing about The Exorcist is that when you say The Exorcist, everybody’s parents and their grandparents say it was the scariest movie ever. right? But if you showed The Exorcist to a horror crowd today, to your kids, for example, they’d be like, that movie isn’t scary.

The trick is that today’s Exorcist is basically the scariest movie ever made. But it must be completely different from the first movie because the first movie in today’s world is not scary. So that’s the line that you really need to walk. And Mike, he threatens to go there. He claims that’s what he will try and do. So I’m excited that he’s passionate about it, and that he’s doing it, and he wants to do it. And hopefully the movie will deliver.

New additions to the Bloom House family

Blumhouse not only has a new online store and newsletter, it has also opened Blumhouse Games.

Amy was raised by a bright light in fear of the spotlight

Screen Rant: When did you decide to expand into games, and what was the process like?

Jason Blum: We started thinking about gaming two or three years ago. We wanted to build it the right way. I wanted to do games like we did movies. I want to do low budget, authentic, visceral, not big, expensive games based on great IP. Our first game is called Fear the Spotlight, and it’s about to come out, so we’ll see if people like it. It has good early feedback and early reviews, but we approach games just like we approach movies.

My hope is with these games that if you like M3gan and you like Five Nights At Freddy’s. And if you like Insidious, you’ll feel the same about our games. That you will feel Blumhouse DNA in our games. And the other thing about our games is that James Wan is a huge player, much bigger than me. I’m a bit into Angry Birds, and he’s a much bigger gamer than I am, and he’s had a hand in helping shape and frame our games, and I’m excited for him to do more of that.

Screen Rant: What was the collaboration with James Wan and Atomic Monster like?

Jason Blum: It was great. It was better than I even thought it would be. I knew Jacob from Insidious. I met him on the first Insidious movie. He directed one and two, and James is an artist, and he’s really, really creative and he’s really inventive. I’m more of a business person. I’m like 20, 25% artist, 80, 75% business. James is the opposite. Maybe even more.

So the partnership is great. He does his thing. I do my thing. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, the creative groups work completely independently, and as I said, next year will be the proof of concept. We’ll see if it worked or not, but I think it did.

Screen Rant: What can you say about your new newsletter, Get in the Van

Jason Blum: We try to reach our fans directly through our mailing list. So it’s called get in the van, and we signed up for the van, and we launched our store today too, by the way. We launched blumhouse.com, which is our store. We sell all sorts of cool Bloomhouse stuff there. But if you’re on the mailing list, you get a first look at a first chance and a lot of different things, early screening, tons of cool stuff. So we are trying to encourage people to join our mailing list.

Screen Rant: How did you get the name?

Jason Blum: In the company, we have 10 different names. I had nothing to do with that name. We have 10 different names and we have a vote. One of them was Get In The Van and that’s the one that won. Someone in games came up with the name.
