Warning: Spoilers only for Murders in the Building, Season 4, Episode 7.
Only murders in the building Season 4, Episode 7 introduced the most shocking murder theory yet. While Mabel, Charles and Oliver take refuge with Charles’s eccentric sister on Long Island to avoid security cameras in Arconia, the three actors who will play them in the film about their podcast continue to work on exploring their characters. Joining Only murders in the building Season four cast members Zach Galifinakis, Eva Longoria and Eugene Levy form their own murder commission, with one shocking conclusion:that one killer remained at large from the first season, changing everything.
The actors understand recent text messages received by the crew, which everyone reads. “I’M WATCHING YOU,” mirrored the note taped to Jen Bellows’ door in season one when the group discovered that she had killed Tim Kono. The group then realizes that they have mistakenly attributed a number of other strange events to Ian, not realizing that there is another criminal on the loose. Knowing that fellow student Professor Dudenoff was killed along with Charles’ stunt double Suzz Pataki, the group concludes that the current killer they are looking for has been operating for much longer than they expected, and all this time they were targets themselves.
OMITB Season 4 suggests that Charles, Oliver and Mabel have been targets since Season 1
Suddenly everyone becomes a suspect
In the first season, a mysterious criminal poisoned Oliver’s bulldog Winnie. Season 1’s killer, Jan, used poison as her weapon of choice, first poisoning Tim and then shooting him and staging his death to look like a suicide. She later poisons Charles after luring him into a relationship in order to use him for information. With her methods in mind, many wrote off Vinny’s poisoning and the note on Ian’s door as part of her poisoning method and scene. Since Ian is in prison, the text messages and hidden cameras are definitely from another killer. this means the entire show can be viewed from a new perspective.
Each season, the podcasters seek justice for a murder victim in their Manhattan apartment building, Arconia. This new theory suggests that they were actually being followed by someone the entire time they were podcasting. This theory is further supported by Sazz’s death this season, as she was Charles’ stunt double and was shot in the back of the head. this means that the intended target would most likely have been Charles. Now everyone in the building is a suspect, including the suspicious Westies.
How the Season 4 reveal changes the meaning of just the murders in the building.
The plot twists will only continue
New plot twists turn the series’ biggest hunters into prey. Since the show is known for its shocking yet believable plot twists, it’s possible that viewers haven’t yet been introduced to the three podcasters’ mysterious old enemies. As these three continue to make a difference in their community and the way their friend, NYPD Detective Williams, solves murders, Looks like someone has some grudges to settle.
New plot twists turn the series’ biggest hunters into prey.
While true crime journalists and podcasters have historically been prone to harassment by those under investigation, the show is more likely to see the culprit have a deeply personal vendetta against Mabel, Charles or Oliver, or everyone. While Westies cashing checks in Dudenoff’s name might accuse them of killing him for his wealth, that wouldn’t provide a clear explanation for why they were able to target the podcasters for so many years. So it’s likely that someone has been out of sight for a really long time.
Are the Westies Really Killers in OMITB Season 4?
Although they are eccentric, they lack organization
Earlier in the season, it was revealed that the Westies, a group of strange neighbors living in the west tower of Arconia, are running a rent control scheme with the help of Professor Dudenoff, who once trained the Sister Brothers (who adapt Only murders in the building podcast for the film) in college. They were told that Dudenoff was in Portugal and from time to time sent them food and money from there.
The group was seen cashing checks addressed to Dudenoff at a local bodega last night. The newest mystery will be whether they will learn of Dudenoff’s death or whether an escaped killer will trick the Westies into thinking Dudenoff is still alive. The reason they cashed the checks either exonerates or indicts the Westies in one fell swoop, and viewers will have to wait until next week to find out if they are the stalkers and killers of season four. Beyond that, if Westies are guilty, it would be interesting to know why Only murders in the building The podcast gang has been hunted by their own neighbors for years.
