Ava has always had an irrational dislike for Janine, although this has softened somewhat in season three and she has made no secret of her attraction to Gregory. So when Abbott Elementary School With Ben Onyx Dowdy’s HR representative Warren returning in Season 4, it seemed like Ava might be using the school district’s power to interfere with the couple’s happiness. In both of these episodes, Ava openly discourages Janine and Gregory from dating, pointing out the potential personnel problems it could cause. However, Back to School proved that Ava’s hiring of HR was no small matter. Surprisingly, the director didn’t care that Gregory and Janine were dating when they openly said so, and even then she only cared insofar as it affected her reputation in HR. Ava was probably unimpressed by the possibility that Gregory and Janine would cause her professional problems, but she graciously supported the couple’s decision to date without paying attention to this minor detail.

The corrupt, incompetent supporting star showed some growth
Some of Abbott Elementary SchoolSome of the funniest moments revolved around Ava’s incompetence and corruption, so viewers might find this character change depressing. Luckily, Back to School reassured viewers that Ava was still her old self when she blithely told the teachers who were taking bribes to get her in on the action. She may have handled Gregory and Janine’s relationship surprisingly well, but Ava clearly hasn’t become a saint over the summer. In this way, the series successfully balanced the change in her character. While she’s still hilariously corrupt, it’s fair to say that Ava also grew up in Abbott Elementary School season 4.
