THE yellow stone The premiere of Season 5, Part 2 finally reveals the true villain of Neo-Western’s final season, and it’s not Jamie (Wes Bentley). The second half of Season 5 wastes no time introducing the mystery of John Dutton’s fate in yellow stone following Kevin Costner’s departure, with Beth (Kelly Reilly) arriving at a busy crime scene at the Governor’s Mansion. John Dutton’s death was staged as a suicide, and although Beth doesn’t believe it, Kayce (Luke Grimes) and her sister begin to mourn their father’s death anyway. We discover that Beth is right and that someone is behind John’s death.
One of the most prominent suspects in John Dutton’s death is Jamie, his adopted son, who decided to accuse John in the yellow stone Season 5, part 1 final. Yet when Montana’s attorney general makes the official announcement that the governor is dead, as is his duty, he can barely get the words out because he is so upset by the news. The moment shows that Jamie mourns the loss of his father and that the news comes as a surprise. Thus, Jamie is not the true villain of yellow stone Season 5, but her hands aren’t clean of John’s death either.

Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) is the true villain of yellow stone season 5 cast. The second half of season 5 reveals that Sarah has a discreet meeting with a company that plans murders, discussing the details of ending John Dutton’s life. Before the meeting, Sarah has to take off her shoes and jewelry and leave all her accessories in a trash can, suggesting the severity of the meeting and the precision with which the company operates. The scene suggests that Sarah was serious about killing John Duttonwith the show going back six weeks to portray what led up to the event.

Sarah’s decision to eliminate the governor was not a stretch of the imagination. Sarah is a highly skilled litigator and a stock market Trojancalled in to manipulate the situation to the company’s benefit after John is elected governor of Montana and cuts off funding for the airport. Market Equities has billions of dollars invested in its Montana ventures, and Sarah is hired to protect that. She begins a romantic relationship with Jamie to convince him that his father needs to go secretly. Sarah tells him that she can help him become governor and that they can be successful together.
Jamie is also something of a victim, but he is not blameless

Jamie is in an unfortunate position in Season 5, and although he finally gets what he wants, it would be a stretch to say the character is feeling happy. What Jamie wants more than anything is his father’s approval. This is why he defends his career as a lawyer so much. He believes his father hates him for this, but he did it to please him. Jamie gets frustrated all the time yellow stone, wanting to move forward and create her own life outside of her father’s shadowbut desperately needing his father’s guidance and validation. So Jamie uses others to fight John.
Jamie wants to be governor of Montana outside of his father’s shadow and agrees to Sarah’s plan, hence the premiere’s title: “Desire Is All You Need.”
Sarah took advantage of Jamie’s weakness. Sarah notices Jamie’s dejected appearance when John wins governorship of Montana, and she says that compromising Jamie is where she will begin to dismantle John Dutton’s power. Sarah successfully infiltrates Jamie’s trust, becoming his romantic partner. Sarah is just another person who uses Jamie, making him a victim in some ways, but it’s a dynamic that Jamie leans on in all of his relationships. Can Jamie still be rescued before Yellowstone ends?
Anything is possible in Yellowstone, especially redemption
Jamie is a complex character, torn between a desire to live outside his father’s shadow and a deep need for his father’s approval throughout this process. As such, Jamie’s obstacle was always defining progress in terms of his father’s needs rather than his own, so Jamie could not act for himself or commit to which side he was on. Now that John is out of the picture, Jamie can clarify what he’s always wanted and what he’s fighting for. Jamie’s loyalties have been murky this whole time yellow stone, so there is still room for redemption.
Redemption would come at a high cost. Jamie clarified that he was working against their family when he removed his father from office with Sarah’s help. Beth wouldn’t forgive Jamie easily, and he would have to sacrifice everything he has for his family and the ranch to regain his brothers’ favor. As Montana’s next governor, Jamie is in a position to help Beth and Kayce more than anyone. He has one more chance to prove his loyalty in yellow stone. Still, while redemption is possible, there’s also a chance that Beth could kill Jamie.
