The cast and crew of Superman film spoke with ScreenRant and other members of the press at Superman trailer screening and Q&A event, giving excellent information about the DC Universe hero's iconic costume. Superman's costume has been reinvented a few times over the years, and this latest version is one of the most interesting and unusual yet. With a stiff collar and an emblem reminiscent of the “Kingdom Come” comics, a considerable level of interest was expressed about how the costume would look in action. Details about this were shared by the director and stars of the film.
Speaking of the costumes, star David Corenswet made it clear that “the costume looks a lot cooler than it looks.” He went into detail about how much wearing the suit was “not glamorous”with the actor being tied to cranes and pulleys. He described this process, describing the suit as hot, before going into detail about what the suit looked like and what it meant to be seen in it. Although wearing the costume had some meaning in itself, he emphasized the importance of other people seeing him in the costume.
“It's like when you get, I don't know, a nice haircut and you forget about it, but then you walk around and everyone's like, wow, you look great. For the first time, I walked onto the set and there were others who saw me in the suit for the first time. So I got to see other people seeing Superman, and I didn't feel like Superman, but it was amazing to see my castmates and the crew members who also are working. in this incredible historical piece of media The Times When. they saw it for the first time or when they saw Superman fly for the first time, not getting to be that specific, but being able to witness it, witness it. And so the best thing is to see the children see when the crew members brought their. children to set or see in first person, a five, 6 year old child, see Superman. There is nothing like it.
James Gunn was with him, who provided more context for the costume design and creation, saying that he “I didn't want it to look like a wet t-shirt” and “I didn't want it to have a lot of fake muscles.” However, this was a difficult task in a superhero production, which raised some doubts when it was completed. Gunn describes being convinced by Corenswet that the costume actually suited the character, with the director explaining how Corenswet's perception of the colorful costume and the character of Superman influenced him.
“David said, yes, he's an alien from outer space who's super powerful, who doesn't want kids to be afraid of him. And that touched me at the time, and it touches me now when I say that's, that's who he is, and that's where the costume comes from, and that goes along with the original vision of Jerry and Joe with the exciting return to the circus wrestlers and these other things. And that's why Superman is. its color; your costume is so colorful. It's because he doesn't want to scare the kids. He has red rays coming out of his eyes.
The influence of seeing this process on set was significant for all parties involved. Nicholas Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor in the film, said seeing the costume left him in awe and made him “feel warm and fuzzy inside.” With the iconography of Superman's costume being so culturally important, it seems like the familiar look was impactful, even during the film's production. Hoult continued, saying:
“It made me feel like a kid again. And there was a scene where he flies onto the set, and I was watching, and I thought, I had a little smile, a private little smile on my face. this is incredible. Then I turned around and saw everyone in the room with the same expression, watching him. And that's the effect he's talking about after that, it's really special.

Superman's costume has a lot of meaning to many people, and seeing it realized in bright, glorious colors seems to touch the hearts of everyone involved. Each live-action iteration of Superman has used a version of this costume, with its own twists. However, the description of the colors and trunks helps establish this version as familiar. Much of the conversation about the character's legacy seems to be quickly accessed by the simple colors and design of the costume itself.
Superman's identity is central to the film's themes, and It's exciting to know that this is important on a script level as well as character design and look. Hearing Gunn and Corenswet talk about the costumes and their use suggests that they were able to create something special and unique for the film. This has since been solidified with the first looks at the character, with Superman's design being something genuinely unique and exciting.

Hearing stories of reactions to the process and how quickly it accessed Superman's memories is incredibly promising. Although “Legacy” is no longer part of the film's title as it suggests Superman Looking back rather than forward, director James Gunn made it clear that much of the film still addresses this theme. Understanding Supermanand seeing so much of her story being accessed visually – even down to her costume design – only made me more excited for this film's arrival.
