The revamped DC Universe already has its new Superman on the way, but James Gunn has addressed when fans can expect to see a new one Flash film. Serving as one of the final entries in the former DC Extended Universe, 2023 The Flash had already completed filming when Gunn and producer Peter Safran were named co-CEOs of the newly created DC Studios in late 2022. Despite the buzz surrounding Michael Keaton's long-awaited return as Batman in the film, the final product would also generate mixed reviews and ultimately underwhelmed at the box office.
In Threads, Gunn recently answered fan questions about the timing of the recently announced Clayface film, and why he wouldn't choose a more prominent character. Reiterating its previous position that the Rule number one for all DC Studios projects would be a complete scripthe explained that Mike Flanagan's script for Clayface was ready to go. Furthermore, he also suggested that development in a new Flash the film is currently being filmed “one beat.” Check out his response below:
It's still too early to reboot Flash
While Gunn's approach to his revitalized DC Universe has didn't completely leave out all the events portrayed in the old DCEUit is expected that none of the previous members of the Justice League will be reprising their roles. Instead, David Corenswet has already been chosen to replace Henry Cavill as Superman, and the DCU's Batman is expected to be revealed sooner than previously announced. Brave and Bold film.
As for The Flash, however, Gunn's decision to delay introducing a new version of the character makes sense given the proximity to the 2023 film starring Ezra Miller. At the time of SupermanFor the 2025 release, it has been 12 years since the character's last solo outing in Man of Steeland despite the presence of Matt Reeves Batman and its universe, the eventual introduction of the DCU's version of Batman is expected to be more closely tied to other members of the extended Bat-family. Fans are already starting to see the key differences between Gunn's approach to the new DCU and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Less interested in grand, sweeping narratives and more committed to delivering quality films that can stand on their own, there are currently no clear indication of when audiences can expect to see a new Flash film or films led by any of the other members of the Justice League.
Classic Flash villain Gorilla Grodd has already appeared in Creature Commandos, and it's likely that the Flash will also be referenced in any number of DCU projects currently in active development.
However, just because Gunn made it clear that they are currently pausing a new Flash film, does not mean that the character's presence will be completely absent from the DCU.
