HBO is building a franchise around the success of Game of Thronesbut the network keeps making the same disappointing mistakes when it comes to its TV spinoffs. Game of Thrones was nothing short of a cultural phenomenon when it aired, so it’s no surprise that HBO is developing several spinoffs based on George RR Martin’s books. Dragon House It’s been two seasons now, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scheduled to arrive in 2025, and a new Game of Thrones the film is in progress.
Despite HBO’s commitment to expanding the Game of Thrones universe, the network keeps repeating the same mistake when it comes to its approach. While series like Dragon House and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms cover interesting events described in Martin’s books, they also prove that HBO is playing it safe. It’s a shame the network isn’t willing to take more risks when it comes to this world, as that would have offered more variety.
HBO keeps repeating the same mistake when it comes to Game Of Thrones spinoffs
Keep canceling your most interesting projects
Although a series of Game of Thrones spinoffs are moving full steam ahead, HBO has also canceled several projects that were in development. Blood Moon, a series that would have explored the Long Night and the origin of the Night King, was the first to be released. The network also dropped its Jon Snow sequel, and Martin revealed that a Braavos spinoff has also been shelved. While not all series in development will become reality, all Game of Thrones’ scrapped spinoffs have one thing in common: They go beyond Martin’s source material.
By doing so, they would expand parts of Westeros that aren’t as developed. From the White Walkers to the Faceless Men, there are many stories of Game of Thrones that require further exploration. Unfortunately, it seems that HBO prefers to stick to narratives that repeat the political intrigues and power struggles of the original show. Dragon House certainly looks similar to its predecessor, and although A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms it will be different, it will remain in familiar locations and it will remain focused on the court.
It’s disappointing that HBO doesn’t take chances with more unique spin-off ideas
Doing so would fix disappointing Game Of Thrones storylines
It’s disappointing that HBO isn’t moving forward with something more exclusive Game of Thrones spin-offsas the network would benefit greatly from this. The fight for the Iron Throne is the central focus of the Game of Thrones, and this creates an exciting narrative. However, this story can often feel new and engaging. And the mysterious parts of Westeros are highlights of the original, with the White Walkers, the Faceless Men, and subtle hints of magic all having vast potential.
HBO appears hesitant to delve deeper Game of Thrones fantasy elements, though, which raises questions about how much he can actually do with his franchise.
AND Game of Thrones does not always fulfill this potentialwith some of these stories leaving many questions unanswered. Viewers expected more from the subplots of White Walker and Faceless Men, to name a few, and spinoffs would be a great way to fulfill that. HBO appears hesitant to delve deeper Game of Thrones fantasy elements, though, which raises questions about how much he can actually do with his franchise.
The Game Of Thrones franchise will lose momentum if the network continues like this
Similar spinoffs can start to feel new and stale
It’s sad to say, but HBO Game of Thrones the franchise will likely lose some of its luster if it continues telling similar stories. While the history and political maneuverings of Westeros open the door to many narratives, the network cannot focus solely on power struggles. Even with Martin’s impressive source material to guide these spinoffs, they would start to feel repetitive and stale without anything else separating them. HBO needs variety if it wants it Game of Thrones remain a cultural phenomenon, and that means charting new territory in future series.
It’s understandable that you want to replicate the success of Game of Thrones, But his popularity stems from more than his political intrigue.
Hopefully the network will eventually realize this and pursue spinoffs that don’t feel so similar to the original show. It’s understandable that you want to replicate the success of Game of Thrones, But his popularity stems from more than his political intrigue. There are so many great parts of Martin’s world, some of which the author didn’t even research in the source material. That doesn’t mean viewers aren’t interested in The Long Night or what comes after Game of Thrones. Many would take the opportunity to explore such mysteries.
