The end of Netflix's spy thriller Black Doves caused Wallace Webb (Andrew Buchan) to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and this change has huge implications for season two. Black Doves is involved with the highest levels of the British government, and now it appears that some of the series' main characters they are the most powerful people in government. The bets for Black Doves season two was even better than before, and such a change in Britain's government needs a bit of explaining.
At the end of Black Doves In season one, Reed (Sarah Lancaster) heavily hinted that Wallace would become prime minister in the near future. Since Black Doves the 2nd season is already confirmed (via Tudum), it seems highly likely that Wallace's time at 10 Downing Street will be the main focus in the show's future. What's not so clear is why Reed thinks Wallace will become prime minister and why the current prime minister is stepping down. As with almost everything in Black Doveshowever, it all goes back to the murder of Ambassador Chen (Andy Cheung).
Why the Prime Minister is actually resigning after the Black Doves season 1 finale
Prime Minister Richard Eaves was working with the Clark crime family
At the end of Black Doves In the first season, Reed told Helen that the Prime Minister was going to announce that he was resigning for health reasons, but that they weren't really health reasons. The real reason Prime Minister Richard Eaves (Adeen Akhtar) is stepping down is because the recording of Ambassador Chen's death proved he was corrupt and working with the Clark crime family.. As the head of the American CIA said, Stephen Yarrick implicated Eaves, and the prime minister's dismissal is probably the only thing that will prevent him from being impeached for his corruption and links to organized crime.

With Eaves expected to resign in the spring, Wallace seems a likely candidate to replace him. Helen previously noted in Black Doves that he had a somewhat meteoric rise through the ranks of government and that he would eventually be Prime Minister. This is how Wallace went from anonymous politician to Minister of State for Defense in less than 10 years. An abrupt opening like Eaves' resignation isn't exactly when Helen thought Wallace would become prime minister, but it's not entirely unexpected.
What Wallace becoming Prime Minister means for Helen and The Black Doves in Season 2
Helen's spying on Wallace will become much more valuable and give the black doves much more power
Once Wallace becomes Prime Minister, Helen's job to spy on him will change drastically. The secrets she steals from Wallace will become much more valuable, which means Reed won't be able to get rid of Helen, no matter how much she wants to. Helen's secrets could make the Black Doves one of the biggest names in the information trade, as they will have a direct line to the highest seat of power in the British government.. There are many people around the world who would pay to have such intimate knowledge of what the Prime Minister is doing.
Wallace's promotion could also cause problems for Helen. As the Prime Minister's wife, Helen will be under even more scrutiny than she has been in the past, both from the press and the authorities. MI5 has already investigated her once, and Wallace's new position means she poses an even greater potential security risk. Reed also mentioned that 10 Downing Street has a constant armed guard posted there, meaning Helen wouldn't be able to escape the house so easily. Essentially, Wallace becoming Prime Minister would make Helen's job in Black Doves more profitable and more dangerous.
