Simon Kinberg is developing a new trilogy for Star Warswhich will include “New characters and a new plot” – so will these be Star Wars Episodes 10 to 12 or not? As the current list of Star Wars film projects in development are all individual films, the news that Star Wars Rebels co-creator Simon Kinberg is developing an entirely new trilogy is an interesting prospect. According to The Hollywood reporter, Kinberg’s films are “it is not intended to be a continuation of the Skywalker saga… The intention here is to have completely new characters and a completely new story, not that it will be a continuation, according to sources.”
However, other media outlets published conflicting reports: Deadlinefor example, it stated that these new films “will comprise episodes 10-12 of the Skywalker saga.” Deadline reporter Mike Fleming Jr. continued:
“Insiders disputed my information that Kinberg will continue this story, saying it will start a new saga and sit alongside Star Wars infiltrating projects with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover. As always, Lucasfilm and Disney have no comment.”
The writer of The Hollywood ReporterBorys Kit’s initial announcement was later taken to social media to reiterate that THRSources confirm that Kinberg’s new trilogy will not be episodes 10-12. With no official word from Lucasfilm and Disney, and no real word on the story or characters involved, it’s hard to say which report to believe.
