Notice! Spoilers ahead for FBI Season 7, Episode 4, “Doubtful.”
FBI Season 7 Episode 4 introduces a new potential replacement for Tiffany Wallace when Syd Ortiz joins the team. Tiffany left the FBI season 7 cast after the season premiere, explaining that she was moving to Georgia to work at her sister’s cafe and regain peace of mind. Replacing her wouldn’t be easy, as she had been Scola’s partner since season 3 and he trusted her completely.
While FBI justified Tiffany’s exclusion, his explanations for why Scola’s new partners keep leaving are not so clear. He’s had two partners so far and neither of them lasted more than one episode. Sofia Ortega decided that the New York field office was not for her, although neither Ulrich’s presence nor absence was explained. When Syd arrives in “Doubted,” she is not immediately introduced as Scola’s partner, but it is clear that this is her intended role.

Ortiz is a BAU agent determined to get justice for her sister
Ortiz’s introduction feels much more like a temporary character than a replacement for Tiffany Wallace. She approaches Isobel at the beginning of “Doubted” and begs her to take on a rape case involving her sister, explaining that someone broke into her sister’s house and drugged her, but fled without completing the attack because her sister had a Isobel badge. FBI on your nightstand. drawer. Although this case does not appear to fall within your jurisdiction, Isobel reluctantly agrees to accept this as a favor to Ortiz’s late fatherwho was a well-respected FBI agent.
Throughout the episode, Ortiz demonstrates his lack of knowledge about FBI procedures. She usually works with the Behavioral Analysis Unit, which creates psychological profiles of suspects to help determine the motive for their crimes and where they might strike next. She continually disobeys Isobel’s orders and questions her decisions, leading to a dangerous situation in which the rapist subdues and ties her up while she investigates him alone. Despite this difficult start, Isobel welcomes Ortiz to the team at the end of the FBI season 7, episode 4.
Ortiz Was Supposed to Be Tiffany’s Replacement on Jubal’s Team (Until She Wasn’t)
Dick Wolf Entertainment changed its mind after its introduction
Ortiz was originally intended to be Tiffany’s replacement in FBI 7th season. Her experience in the BAU should make working with her a new challenge for Scola, who has never had a partner who didn’t know the first thing about thinking strategically while chasing down violent criminals. The seeds of this conflict were planted in “Doubtful” when Ortiz questioned Isobel’s decision to offer immunity to a suspect in exchange for information about the serial rapist they were behind, and later when she confronted a suspect alone without communicating her plans to the team.
Ortiz’s departure after a few episodes means Scola will once again be without a permanent partner within a few episodes, with no word on whether the series plans to change that now or when F.B.I. season 8 will air next year.
This plan will not go ahead, unfortunately. As reported by DeadlineDick Wolf Entertainment decided to write Syd out before she debuted. The team responsible for this decision emphasized that the actress was not to blame. They simply felt the character wasn’t suited to FBI’in the New York field office after his stories went into production.
