International Season 4, Episode 4

FBI: International season 4 saw a big change with Jesse Lee Soffer’s Wes Mitchell replacing Scott Forrester as the leader of the Fly team. The series continues to explore new stories in its new era, exemplified by Special Agent Tate’s entry into the field. “The Unwinnable War” sees Amanda undertake her first undercover mission to expose a corrupt DEA agent. With much of his work taking place behind a desk, Season 4 Episode 4 allows the intelligence analyst to showcase his range of skills.

Tate’s mission is successful, proving that she has more to offer the team than technical knowledge. However, although it is clear that the agent is interested in field work, any desire to change careers is overshadowed by her commitment to Lili. Christina Wolfe says Amanda will continue to prioritize motherhood above all else, but her desire to take a more active role remains an internal conflict throughout the season.

TelaRant interviews Wolfe about Tate’s first secret mission in FBI: International Season 4, her character’s working relationship with Wes and which agent she would like to share the screen with in a possible crossover.

Tate’s Daughter Remains His Priority in FBI: International Season 4

“She is emotionally involved in the cases, but at the same time she has her daughter and another life that she tries to protect.”

ScreenRant: Episode 4 was huge for Tate. What were your initial thoughts when you first read the script?

Christina Wolfe: Oh, I just loved it. I think I texted Wade right after I read it, like, “Wow, this is an amazing episode.” I felt very privileged to have had this adventure to play out on screen.

This being Tate’s first undercover mission, what was it like playing a character you know so well, while she’s essentially playing a character?

Christina Wolfe: It was just incredible. Undercover is a whole different ball game, especially since she has no training in being undercover. So, in a way, Tate and I were doing something new together. It was really fun. I really enjoyed the experience.

Tate took a lot of risks during this case. Going back to the conversation with Vo, do you think she felt like she needed to prove something to herself and the team?

Christina Wolfe: Absolutely. I’m not sure if this was the final draft, but she says, “I think I have a chip on my shoulder. Tell me I can’t do something and I’ll do it.” I think that’s motivating her. She really wants to prove to herself and the team that she can step up when needed.

This episode is a testament to how excellent Tate is at field work, which Wes himself says. Will she have any internal struggles about wanting to do more but also wanting to prioritize her daughter?

Christina Wolfe: Yeah, I think that’s her main conflict. Her main internal conflict is that she loves her job, is very good at it, and knows it. It gives her a sense of power, and she fights for justice, and is emotionally invested in the cases, but at the same time, she has her daughter and another life that she’s trying to protect.

Then at the end of the episode she says, “I think I’m fine where I am, for now,” because she knows herself and there’s an impulsive part of her that she knows will always be there. I don’t think this is going anywhere. I think she will want to return to the field at some point, when it’s right, but it has to be right. I think there have to be variables for her to accept another case in the area.

Tate Earned Mitchell’s Trust in FBI: International Season 4, Says Wolfe

“They seem to work really well together and I feel like there’s a lot of mutual respect there.”

Lili notices how happy Tate is in the final scene of the episode. Where would you say happiness comes from?

Christina Wolfe: I think it was fortunate that it worked out and that she was safe and grateful to be back with her daughter. But I think there’s also pride in what she did. When you’re living your purpose and you’re in your flow, I think she really has that at work, and she’s happy because she’s able to express herself and inhabit that part of herself that’s so important to her.

Do you want Tate to get out on the field more and balance that with his coaching work?

Christina Wolfe: I love them both. I really love how she works at the hub and how she manages this team. She’s completely in her element on that side of things. I love playing that element of her character. I would also love to get back on the field, so a balance would be perfect. That would be ideal – being able to do both.

How would you say Wes’s leadership is different from Forrester’s and what kind of impact do you think this has on Tate and the team?

Christina Wolfe: I think anyone taking on a new position like this as a leader is going to feel some apprehension within the team. Is it the right fit and everything? I think, especially with Smitty, you see that. But I think Amanda is very happy to welcome him with open arms because they desperately need a leader after Forrester leaves, and he does a great job filling in and leading this team to solve more cases.

Wes showed a lot of belief in Tate. How do you feel about the working relationship they’ve built so far?

Christina Wolfe: I think so far so good. They seem to work really well together and I feel like there’s a lot of mutual respect there. Tate definitely feels like she needs to earn his trust, which I think she did by the end of the episode, so I’d say their relationship is solid.

Wolfe Teases Tate’s Next FBI: International Plot

“What she really needs to do this season is try to balance her life.”

There is a character FBI or FBI: Most Wanted Who would you like Tate to interact with in future crossovers?

Christina Wolfe: I loved working with Jeremy Sisto, so I would be really happy if he came back or if Tate left and worked at the FBI office. They have a similar job, don’t they? So for them to interact would be really, really cool.

It’s still early in the season, so how would you describe the trajectory of Tate’s next story?

Christina Wolfe: This season she’s not young anymore. She joined last season, so now she’s more established in her role. I think there’s a sense of confidence and pride in her work, and she’s becoming a very brave character. What she really needs to do this season is try to balance her life so she doesn’t feel like she’s having to choose between home or work – find a way to make peace with the fact that she has this job, and she has a daughter. .

There’s still a lot to learn about Tate. Do you have any questions about the character that you would like answered?

Cristina Wolfe: Yes. I’m always interested in seeing how relationships evolve and how relationships with the team evolve. That’s always interesting to me. And also, anything to do with backstory is always really interesting for an actor – to see how you can turn that into the person she is now.
