Screen Rant: Like PD, International is also a Dick Wolf show, so what inspired you to stay in that genre, but move on from playing Jay?
Jesse Lee Safer: Dick Wolf doesn’t make bad TV. He was cornering the market, and when the opportunity came up, it was obviously Wolfe and Matt Olmstead, who wrote the beginning of PD, who was the showrunner originally for the first five seasons of Chicago PD and so I was Like, “Oh, this is going to be awesome, I’m going to make a new character with Matt. There’s so much cool in this game.

His character will no doubt be a memorable addition
Safer left as Halstead entered Chicago PD Season 10, where he decides to leave the force and return to the army, sniffing out drug cartel activity in Bolivia. While the actor has not shown since his initial departure, His presence is still felt, with him and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) getting divorced off-screen before the start of season 11. While her own departure means Chicago PD Season 12 will no longer feel his presence as much, the actor’s newfound role on FBI: International Promises a fun return in an unexpected way.

Because of the excitement Soffer feels about his new role at FBI: International, We’re just as ecstatic to see him return to Wolff’s television universe. Since Wes will be the new leader of the flight team, the actor will likely take on the role of the new protagonist, something that is familiar to Chicago PD are likely to enjoy. Although it signals a major difference compared to Forrester, it still sounds like a strong choice, especially given the actor’s passion for the larger world of the show.
