The Bachelor has struggled in recent seasons, but at this point, I'm struggling to understand how the Bachelor franchise can move forward without a complete overhaul after what they did to their competitors and recent protagonists. While The Bachelor is one of the longest-running reality dating show franchises on the air, they have dealt with major backlash from viewers in recent seasons for the way they have treated cast members. Intended to help singles find a lasting relationship through deep connections and fairytale romance, The Bachelor and its consequences, The bachelorette, the golden bachelor, and The golden bachelorette everyone fought.

Although some spin-offs, such as Bachelor in Paradise, are created to bring cast members together and create drama alongside sometimes successful couples, others are aimed at turning the fantasy of a fairytale romance into reality. The Golden Bachelor The first season looked at mature relationships through the lens of The Bachelor franchise. After production decided to position lead Gerry Turner in a certain light to make him more palatable, it was discovered that his backstory was mostly fictional. While Bachelor producers ignored other scandals, with Tragic new information about Gerry's health issues emerging, they need to face their mistakes.

Single producers set Gerry Turner up for failure

He should take responsibility for the Golden Bachelor scandal

Although The Golden Bachelor was a fascinating look at a more mature version of the standard Bachelor history, the series was made to have a shine Bachelor overlay to ensure nothing on screen is too serious. With Gerry chosen as the lead after a nationwide casting search Bachelor producers packaged the widower with a BachelorPersonalized story to make you seem like the perfect person. Although Gerry was in a relationship after his wife tragically passed away in 2017, the series made it clear in their pitches that they wanted Gerry to appear unfailingly loyal by the start of the show.

When did this come out Gerry's relationship history wasn't exactly as clean as he said during your Bachelor-On a sanctioned press tour, the media came after the Indiana native instead of looking at the program, which likely developed its media strategy. Gerry was personally eviscerated by the press for most of 2024. When he spoke about his tragic cancer diagnosis at the end of the year, it became clear that he was not the person behind the construction of his personality. The Golden Bachelor. Instead of, Bachelor the producers prepared Gerry to take responsibility if something difficult or problematic happened to him.

Single Producers Have Dealt With Other Major Scandals

The castings of The Bachelorette and The Golden Bachelorette have been problematic

While Gerry's scandal was one of the most confusing, there have been other problems in the franchise's most recent seasons. The Bachelorette season 21 was created to celebrate the protagonist, Jenn Tran, and her heritage. As the first Asian-American bachelorette party, Jenn's background was used as part of the intro package for the season, but her journey deteriorated quickly after that. Jenn's cast was curated for another Bachelorette party candidate. It was clear that many of the men were not interested in her, including her eventual winner, Devin Strader, who was revealed to have a violent past.

While Jenn's casting was shortlisted for another lead, The golden bachelorette The Season 1 cast didn't suffer from the same problem. However, issues with Jenn's winning choice, Devin, were prevalent throughout the Joan Vassos cast. Although Devin had a past restraining order citing some violent behavior two of the men in Joan's cast were called during The golden bachelorette Season 1 for having restraining orders in the past. Although one of the guys, Gil Ramirez, was an early elimination for Joan, the other man with a restraining order in the past, Guy Gansert, was one of Joan's finalists.

The series doesn't seem to be moving forward

Producers did not respond to questions about equality or change

While there have been issues in the shows' previous seasons, such as the racial insensitivity shown throughout the franchise, The Bachelor the producers did not answer for their problems or demonstrate any responsibility for them. While the producers have been asked publicly about what they plan to do to ensure there are changes to make the series more diverse and equitable, The Bachelor producers haven't spoken about their plans or appeared to make changes moving forward. Instead of, the franchise keeps making huge mistakes that prove they are out of touch with the reality of its viewers.

I don't think Bachelor Nation is safe for cast members

They're not protecting the leads or the stars

While The Bachelor season 29 is set to release in the new year, with Grant Ellis as the lead, I don't think the franchise is a safe space for the cast members or protagonists no more. The series shouldn't continue after throwing its leads to the wolves and allowing cast members with dangerous pasts into the shows. While there may be things happening behind the scenes to improve the series and make it a safer space, I don't think The Bachelor Producers are going to great lengths to make changes to their production schedules or processes to improve cast safety.
