Jac Schaeffer revealed an unused scene from the final battle of Agatha all the timeand I'm so glad this dark moment wasn't included in the MCU Phase 5 series. Agatha all the time quickly became one of my favorite Marvel Studios projects following its release around Halloween 2024. I'm obsessed with Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness, and I found the developments of Billy Maximoff and Death incredibly exciting. All of this came to a head in an epic final battle in Agatha all the time episode 8, but this was almost even scarier.
Agatha all the time Episode 8, “Follow Me My Friend/To Glory at the End”, saw Agatha, Billy, and Jennifer Kale complete the final test on the Witch's Road, with each receiving what they traveled the Road for. After escaping, Agatha found herself back in Westview, where she faced the charismatic Death of Aubrey Plaza in a final confrontation. I loved that this final battle was stripped down and intimate, but I'm glad that some of the original ideas floated by Agatha all the time creators were not included during this fight.
Agatha almost brought back WandaVision's Sparky The Dog
Sparky was first seen in episode 5 of WandaVision
In November 2024, after the end of Agatha all the timeseries creator Jac Schaeffer spoke with Jeff Goldsmith about Backstory Magazine and revealed more about the creative process of the MCU series Phase 5. One comment stood out to me as Schaeffer, when discussing how grueling it was to get the final fight right, noted that episode 8 writer Peter Cameron had an unusual original idea for the battle. Surprisingly, this would have seen the skeleton of WandaVision Sparky gets off the ground to join the fight.
The battle in [Episode 8] it was unbearable. Poor Peter Cameron came up with so many versions of this that I didn't want to do because I don't really like big battles, and he had some really amazing ideas, like Sparky's skeleton coming from the backyard and fighting everyone. It was very, very good. But he always got the kiss right and he always got Agatha's death right, and that was our north star, and then we finally found it.
Sparky first appeared as a stray dog found by five-year-old Billy and Tommy Maximoff in WandaVision episode 5, “In a very special episode…” The twins grow up to be ten years old so Wanda Maximoff and Vision let them keep the dog, but Sparky finally meets his death at the hands of Ralph Bohner, controlled by Agatha Harkness, moments lateralthough we're told Sparky died from eating Agnes' poisonous azalea leaves. I would have been shocked to see Sparky in Agatha all the time final battle, and I'm glad he didn't show up.
How Bringing Back Sparky Would Have Changed Agatha's Ending All Along
Sparky would have made Agatha All Along's final battle really weird
Above, I noted that I loved the fact that Agatha all the time the final battle felt intimate, like a dance between Agatha Harkness and Death, with Billy Maximoff getting the chance to show off his impressive skills as well. I appreciated the change of pace from the typical CGI fights of the big Marvel studios. Throwing Sparky's dog skeleton into the mix would have completely changed the impact of this fightalthough we had seen some payoff with Ralph Bohner's revelation in Agatha all the time episode 6 that he was actually the one who killed the dog.
We didn't see what happened to Sparky after his death in WandaVisionbringing back his skeletal form Agatha all the time would have confirmed that the dog was buried. It would have taken some explanation to answer why Sparky was buried in Agatha Harkness' backyard and not the Maximoffs', but it would have underlined Wanda Maximoff's lesson to her children in WandaVision. Sometimes dead means dead. Burying Sparky in a real ceremony would have strengthened this idea, but it would have contradicted the powers of Scarlet Witch and Wicca.
Why Sparky Better Didn't Appear in Agatha All Along's Final Battle
Agatha All Along's final fight was perfect
I'm so happy that Agatha all the time the creators decided not to include Sparky in the series' final battle in episode 8. Seeing the skeletal form of a puppy running around attacking Agatha Harkness, Billy Maximoff and Death would have been absolutely ridiculousand too strange even for the campy and extravagant Phase 5 series. Agatha all the time the final battle was perfect the way it was, and Jac Schaeffer even emphasized the fact that Peter Cameron received Agatha Harkness and Death's kiss and the former's subsequent death, and I completely agree.
Even though he didn't show up Agatha all the timeIt's possible that we could still see Sparky the dog return to the MCU in the future. Upcoming Marvel Studios films Vision series will act as WandaVision second spin-off, and it was theorized that it would see a confused White Vision rebuild his perfect family, perhaps including a synthezoid version of Sparky. I would love to see this development for the lovable pet Maximoff, but I would be very happy to never see Sparky's skeleton rising from the ground, so Jac Schaeffer and Peter Cameron made the right choice by omitting it. Agatha all the time.
