I'm convinced Sony could have saved Kraven the Hunter with a bizarre but effective solution

There was a way Sony could have done it Kraven the Hunter More interestingly, it would have been a completely bizarre solution, but I believe it would have worked. Sony's Spider-Man universe had a big year in terms of number of films, with Lady Teia, Venom: The Last Dance, and Kraven the Hunter all released this year. However, all of the films were far from a box office success and received mixed or poor reviews from critics. Just a few days before KravenAt launch, it was announced that Sony would stop producing Spider-Man films universe for now.

Sony's decision means that Lady Teia and Kraven the Hunter likely won't get the sequels both films were clearly setting up. It's a shame that Kraven It bombed so much because it was a promising concept with some positive qualities, but it seemed like it was always destined to fail as part of the Sony universe. However, there is a crazy direction that I think Sony could have taken the film in, and that would have made it a much more intriguing film than it ended up being.

Putting Kraven the Hunter in the setting of Sony's Noir Spider-Man show could have been enough to save it

The outrageous idea would have set the film apart

Although Sony no longer produces Spider-Man films, they are still moving forward with the Spider-Noir show that will be part of the same universe. Nicolas Cage is playing Spider-Man Noir again, although it's a completely different version of the character than the one he voiced Into the Spider-Verse. The show will be set in 1930s New York, following Spider-Man Noir as he deals with being the only superhero in town. All of this has no current relation to Kraven, but I believe that putting Kraven in the same scenario would have been enough to save the film.

It's definitely an outrageous idea, but SSU could have afforded to take the risk. The franchise has already been teased by critics and fans alike for its ridiculous writing and questionable artistic choices. Placing Kraven in 1930s New York would have been a shocking decision, but at least it would have provided a fun and new idea that the ending Kraven the Hunter desperately needed film. It would also have served as a better connector for Spider-Noirso that the series doesn't feel completely isolated at SSU.

Setting up a fight between Kraven the Hunter and Spider-Man Noir would have finally fulfilled a years-long promise from Sony

The SSU suffered from a lack of overarching interests

Putting Kraven into the Spider-Man Noir universe may have been enough to save the SSU. Following a 1930s version of Sergei Kravinoff could have created a potential villain for Spider-Man Noir to face in his series. In the comics, Kraven's character's goal is to he wants to beat his enemy, Spider-Man so he can prove he's the best hunter in the world. Sony is not allowed to portray Spider-Man in a way that doesn't match the MCU's depiction, but the hero has still been referenced Kraven the Hunteralbeit in a ridiculous way.

The film's biggest inference that Kraven would end up facing Spider-Man at some point was when The Stranger used Sergei's greatest fear against him: spiders. It was a confusing moment that many still don't know how to interpret, but Sony could have avoided the hassle by using the Spider-Noir idea. Having Kraven exist in Spider-Man Noir's 1930s New York City would have started a fight against a version of Spider-Man that Sony actually has permission to use, and probably would have given people real excitement about the comprehensive SSU.

Spider-Man Noir Could Still Bring Kraven Into Its Story

There's still room for Spider-Noir's cast to grow

Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse holding his hat

Though it's too late to save Kraven the Hunter now, Sergei can still be used in the Spider-Man Noir story. Not all characters that will appear in Spider-Noir have already been confirmed, but Sergei would have been a perfect villain for Spider-Man Noir to fight anyway. Kraven has always leaned more towards the villainous side because of his methods, and he's a more grounded criminal for Spider-Man Noir to fight compared to some major extraterrestrial threat.

If Kraven ends up entering Spider-Noirit would have to be a different version than Aaron Taylor Johnson's from the film. The film clearly placed him in the modern day and while SSU is no stranger to confusing plot continuations, seeing the Kraven we already know suddenly appear in the past would be too much. The idea may be completely bizarre, but I believe it is the new thing that Kraven the Hunter I desperately needed to engage the audience.
