Yarros stated that he does not have the capacity to write another novel so soon after onyx stormso it's possible that an earlier novel is a more likely option. Not only would this be an easier project to produce, but it would also give readers insight into Xaden's past and early life in Basgiath before the events of Fourth victoryget the ball rolling.

There are several theories about Xaden's past – including the mystery of what happened to his mother. While it remains to be seen how much Yarros will reveal about his past in onyx storm, a prequel novel before the fourth book of the Empyrean Series could serve as a bridge between the two narratives.
