    I was shocked by the Infinity Nikki story that hooked me

    While Infinite Nikki is absolutely a game where players can dress Nikki up in beautiful outfits, compete in style competitions and look for more clothes and accessories, there is much more to it than her sparkly dresses. The fifth installment of nikki series, it expands the lore of its universe while also offering platforming, puzzle solving, combat, and, of course, beautiful clothes to wear. The fact that it has become known as just a “dress up game” is disappointing to me, given the thought-provoking story that game developers have included in the narrative through scenes and missions.

    The following article contains minor spoilers for the story of Infinite Nikki.Although Infinite Nikki certainly embraces its “girly game” aspects of dressing up in cute clothes and collecting as many accessories as possible, the story behind the magical world of Miraland that Nikki and Momo are transported to is much more complex than just a clothes styling game. Innocent people are falling into comas, wars and rumors of wars are circulating everywhere, and the god of the world, The Desired One, may even have been killed by his helpers.

    Clothes are certainly a quality feature

    Newbies to the game can expect a simple, cozy dress-up game with bright colors, cute animals, and impressive styling options. All this is true, of course, as Infinite Nikki it certainly manages to be a wonderfully cozy experience in its majestic world, where clothes can contain magical abilities. Even within the story itself, Nikki's overall goal in Miraland is to find the Miracle Outfits how she was guided in order to save the world. This quest could easily have been considered simply a forced mechanic to allow the costumes to make sense, but the developers expanded the idea and the world in incredible ways.

    A player could spend hours simply competing in style challenges and creating outfit combinations and be perfectly happy doing so, but they would be missing out on the depth that comes from this game's story.

    Of course, There's no denying that clothes are where Infinite Nikki shines. Even without spending real-world money on the game's gacha mechanics, there are so many items to be crafted, purchased, found, or earned that can be used to put together amazing outfits for Nikki. A player could spend hours simply competing in style challenges and creating outfit combinations and be perfectly happy doing so, but they would be missing out on the depth that comes from this game's story.

    Much more complex than I expected from this game

    Before the game's release Infinite NikkiThe trailers for Me left me wondering what the game would be about and whether it would have anything beyond the ability to wear cute clothes and hairstyles. It still seemed like fun and something I wanted to play, but I didn't have high hopes that it would hook me for long periods of time.

    Fortunately, I was very wrong in that assumption, as soon after starting the game I was intrigued by the story it presented. I needed to know more about these miracle outfits, the Wishing One, what a Faewis Sprite is, and more. Above all, I was immediately curious as to why people were falling into comas and how these magical Quick-Wish bottles could make it happen.

    A little bit of Infinite Nikki's history, explained

    Infinite Nikki It's not the first in its series of games, but its story is set in an alternate time so players don't need to have played the other titles. The game begins when Nikki and Momo explore Nikki's mother's attic and find a magical dress that transports them to the world of Miraland. The clothes here can be used by fashion designers, who are essentially the magic users of Miraland, to have unique powers.

    During an encounter with a strange goddess known as Ena the Healer who has been imprisoned for thousands of years, Nikki has a special Infinity Heart placed inside her chestwith the guidance that Nikki must save the world. This is what starts Nikki and Momo on their magical journey and gives Nikki all the magical abilities she needs to be the hero of this story.

    Although that initial sequence of events seemed a little strange to me at first, when Nikki arrived in town, I found myself being drawn into the story. Listening to snippets of conversations, reading books left on tables and joining the cause to solve the case of strange comas, I was left wanting more.

    This world seems to circle in desireseven though different areas have very different ideas about how wishes work and who they can trust to fulfill them. The Desired, their god of the past, has been killed. However, how he was killed and by whom appears to be a source of contention among his followers. Even the scary little monsters of the world, known as Esselings, seem to have ties to desires in this land.

    So many unanswered questions that bring me back to the game

    Potential for many future updates and DLC

    I've been taking my time, savoring the history and fun challenges in Infinite Nikki and I haven't finished the story that's currently available in the game, although I've gotten far enough to see that it continues to delve deeper into its narrative about the darkness the world holds. Even just seeing the social class distortions in Piecey's civilization presents an interesting insight of how cultures can segregate those who are considered inferior. In short, the happy and cozy game doesn't shy away from the negative and dark parts of the world.

    We already know this Infinite Nikki plans to have several major additions. Customizable houses and islands have been teased by the developers, and Heartcraft Kingdom has many more regions that have yet to be explored. Likewise, wars in the lands of other nations, such as Umbraso and the Empire of Light, will likely lead to the opening of these zones for Nikki to visit in the future, giving many new directions for the story to take.

    I hope the Infinity Nikki developers tell more about its story

    'Cause I want to hear more

    By simply seeing areas of the game that have not yet been revealed, Of course the developers have a much bigger story to Infinite Nikki of what is still provided. While the game may be getting most of its attention with a focus on the dress-up gameplay and included gacha mechanics, the story is one I'd like to know more about and I really hope the developers share their vision.

    Currently, it looks like they'll have that chance, with the game surpassing 10 million downloads in less than a week. On social media, many shared their outfits of the day for Nikki or discussed how to complete certain tasks, showing that many continued to enjoy the game. Not just the “girl games” audience, but people of all ages and playing styles had a great time in Miraland and we hope you are enjoying the story of Infinite Nikki as much as me.
