Deadpool and Wolverine Executive Producer Revealed an Interesting Early Concept for Deadpool 3
At the beginning of the documentary, Deadpool and Wolverine executive producer Wendy Jacobson joins Reynolds on the list of several concepts that have been pitched to Marvel Studios. These included:

A low-budget, $4 million Sundance-type movie in which there would be no action, but Deadpool in his suit would appear.

A frame-by-frame remake of Thor: The Dark World featuring Deadpool.

An unspecified sequence of ideas that ranged from the small to the general.
The last argument Jacobson revealed involved reconfiguring Deadpool in the main MCU timeline and revealing that all of her scenes were deleted. Jacobson’s full quote is as follows:
“We had a ‘Deadpool deleted scenes extravaganza.’ We were going to try to show that he was in the MCU the whole time, you just didn’t see his scenes, they were all in the editing room.”
Jacobson clarified that this idea was contained in some of his notes, suggesting it didn’t leave the ground very far. Ultimately, it was because of Hugh Jackman’s vacation epiphany that he wanted to make a “Wolverine and Deadpool“A film that won over everyone with the integration of the characters into the MCU. I’m glad he did it for a multitude of reasons – but among the biggest is the fact that reconnecting Deadpool to the MCU simply wouldn’t have worked.
It’s hard to understand what the plot would have been
It is difficult to understand how this version of Deadpool 3 would have made for a convincing plot. Revisiting old MCU stories with Deadpool included might have been fun, but It feels more like a standalone joke within a broader Deadpool film. In contrast, Deadpool and Wolverine It felt like a solid continuation of Deadpool’s arc in Fox’s X-Men universe, deftly handling the implications of the multiverse to at least partially integrate it into the MCU, albeit in realms distinct from the main films’ Earth-616 location.
I think this speaks to another question about why it would have been necessary to have Deadpool being a central, yet overlooked, member of the MCU cast. Doing so would also mean explaining where the rest of the X-Men were in the MCU during this time, given their ties to the franchise. Of course, this could have been explained by the same time-traveling MacGuffin that saw Deadpool being interviewed by Happy Hogan, but I can understand why the studio ultimately shunned the idea given how difficult it would be to create an entire movie around it.
How Marvel Could Still Pull Off a Major Deadpool MCU Timeline Retcon Montage
Marvel could still use the concept as a montage in a larger film
As I mentioned, having Deadpool run through the MCU in a montage clearly feels like a joke within a larger narrative. The success of Deadpool and Wolverine means Deadpool’s return to the MCU is extremely likely – and this time, we might even see him interact with other characters like Spider-Man. A supposed soft reboot of the MCU after Avengers: Secret WarsMeanwhile, it could see the multiverse’s myriad characters condense into a single universe in an emulation of Marvel Comics merging its disparate universes post-2015 Secret Wars.
In fact, this could compensate for Thor’s provocation, since the scene with Thor in Deadpool and Wolverine was ripped straight from Thor: The Dark World.
Whether you are in Deadpool 4 or a future joint film (which would not be incompatible with such a joke), a montage integrating Deadpool into the MCU would make more sense as a consequence of the merger of these timelines. In fact, this could compensate for Thor’s provocation, since the scene with Thor in Deadpool and Wolverine was ripped straight from Thor: The Dark World. Finally, it would be a fitting homage to Deadpool’s time travel antics in the post-credits scene of Deadpool 2. With Deadpool absent from the main events of the MCU, I would really like to do a tongue-in-cheek retcon in this way.
