Grand Admiral Throne is one of the most iconic and menacing villains in Star Wars And I think I understood where he could turn next. Grand Admiral Thrawn was initially introduced in Timothy Zahn’s heir to the empire Book trilogy in the 1990s, and the novels had a significant impact on fans of the franchise. But, because heir to the empire is a part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe (also called Legends) is no longer considered canon after Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012.
Since then, Dave Filoni has been slowly re-canonizing aspects of Legends including reintroducing Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels Season 3. I believe Thrawn’s introduction in Rebels is one of the reasons why the show is so beloved by fans. Tron was calculating, but calm under pressure, and it looked like the Rebels didn’t stand a chance, making for some must-sees. Star Wars Content. When it was announced that Thrawn would be making his live-action debut in AhsokaIt opened up all the possibilities of where else this iconic character could appear — and I could have figured out when we’d see him next.
Throne is tied to Mothma’s escape from the Empire
This was seen in Rebels
in Rebels Season 3, Episode 18 “Secret Cargo” The Ghost Crew is part of a Rebel plan to help Senator Mon Mothma escape Imperial custody after essentially defecting. In the episode, the Empire’s forces to capture Mon Mothma were led by Thrawn, and he even planned a sneak attack to capture the rebels as they exited a nebula. In fact, it was Thrawn’s idea to let the rebels escape and be chased into the nebula so that his Star Destroyer, H.He chimera would be waiting for them on the other side.

The rebels eventually left, with Mon Mothma, but only after a very close call. Because of Ezra Bridger’s prowess while flying through the nebula, the Ghost Was able to avoid being blown up by the Imperial TIE-Defender. Mon Mothma would go on to lead the Rebel Alliance from Yavin 4, but her escape from Thrawn and his forces was seen as a failure for the Grand Admiral.
Andor Season 2 will tell Mon Mothma’s Rebel Story
The story of the Gorman Massacre will be told
When Mon Mothma defected from the Empire, it was after giving a speech blaming Emperor Palpatine for killing innocent protesters on the planet Gorman. The speech was moving and was why the Empire wanted to capture the senator. It means that Andr Season 2 will show more of Mon Mothma, and even show her defection and subsequent escape from Imperial custody. Based on set photos, it has been theorized that Cassian Andor will be the Rebel operative sent to extract Mon Mothma from Coruscant.

While it makes sense to bring together two of the main characters in Andr In Cassian and Mon Mothma, it will be interesting how else Mothma’s story is integrated into Rebels. Because of AndrThe unique storytelling model where one story arc is told over three episodes, viewers can expect to see Mothma’s defection over several weeks. The first episode of the arc may focus on the Ghorman Massacre and Mon Mothma’s decision to speak out, while the second will be her defection and the first part of her escape, and the third may retell the story of Rebels.
Andor Season 2 will have cameos, but Thrawn would be too much
Thrawn would destroy the best part of Andor
Since before its premiere, Andr is marketed as a “boots-on-the-ground” type of show that largely stays away from the fantastical nature of the Jedi, instead showing normal people’s struggles against the Empire. It has already been confirmed that Andr Season 2 will feature cameos from different characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story including Ben Mendelsohn as Director Krennic, Alan Tudyk as K2-SO, and Forrest Whitaker returning as Saw Gerrera. However, bringing someone so important to the New Republic era in Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Throne seems like overkill.
One of the best things about Andr Is that it stuck to its guns when it comes to telling a compelling story that’s gritty and grounded in real hardship, but changing to shoehorn in someone like Grand Admiral Thrawn seems disingenuous. I would be okay with Lars Mikkelsen making a vocal cameo indicating that Thrawn is going to intercept Mon Mothma, but anything more than that threatens to take away from the overall story being told.. I hope Tony Gilroy continues his amazing track record of Andr Season 1 and only further enrich Mon Mothma’s defection into Andr Season 2.
