Gina and Georgia may tackle darker topics, but the Netflix show is often compared to Gilmore Girls in terms of their relationships – and I really hope it doesn't happen again Gilmore Girls biggest romantic mistake. Gilmore Girls is known for its best love interests, with viewers invested in pairings like Lorelai and Luke and Rory and Logan. Gina and Georgia is building so much excitement around its mother-daughter duo's romances (although with Georgia being arrested at the end of season two, they'll no doubt have bigger things to worry about).
Ginny's life and relationships don't have much in common with Rory Gilmore's, but Georgia's love interests have clear parallels to Lorelai's. There's Ginny's father, Zion, who continues to hold a special place in Georgia's heart, just as Christopher does with Lorelai. There is also Mayor Paul Randolph's safe haven, which can be seen as Gina and GeorgiaMax Medina. And then there's Blue Farm Cafe owner Joe, who clearly has a soft spot for an oblivious Georgia – and it could end up being game over if he turns out to be the series' Luke.

Gina and Georgia sets up Georgia's love life to look a lot like Lorelai's in Gilmore Girls, but it should avoid one of the biggest mistakes of the CW series. While it makes sense that Lorelai and Christopher continue to have feelings for each other throughout the show, Gilmore Girls drags out its romance plot for too long. Lorelai returns to Christopher several times throughout the series, even when it doesn't make much sense. This will certainly happen at least once early on, but Lorelai marrying Chris after she and Luke got together is questionable.
Unfortunately, Zion and Georgia's relationship could easily head in this direction; the two prove to have strong feelings for each other throughout Gina and Georgia seasons 1 and 2. They reunite once despite Georgia being with Paul, but the Netflix series shouldn't prolong their potential endgame as Gilmore Girls he does. If Zion and Georgia end up together, the path to doing so should be simpler. And if Georgia finds happiness with someone else, Gina and Georgia should allow her to mother Zion platonically.

The reason I worry about this Gina and Georgia will repeat Gilmore Girls that's the error Georgia and Zion's relationship is presented similarly to Christopher and Lorrelai's. Zion appears out of nowhere and it's immediately clear that Ginny adores him. He and Georgia also end up sleeping together, despite Georgia seemingly finding happiness and stability in her romance with Paul. It seems a lot Gilmore Girls Season 1, and to be fair, this needs to happen on both shows.
I don't want to see them back off like Christopher and Lorelai, especially if it negatively affects a vulnerable Ginny in the process.
I'm glad Georgia and Zion got their unresolved feelings out of the way at the beginning of Gina and Georgia, opening the door to doing more interesting things with your characters later. I just hope the series doesn't retread this territory again later. With Georgia and Zion deciding to go their separate ways – even though they are still attracted to each other – Gina and Georgia sends the message that both characters are moving forward. I don't want to see them back off like Christopher and Lorelai, especially if it negatively affects a vulnerable Ginny in the process.
Why Georgia and Zion Shouldn't Be More Than Friends in Future Seasons
Ginny's well-being and repetitive sensation are among the biggest reasons
There are some big reasons why Georgia and Zion shouldn't be more than friends in Gina and Georgia, and Ginny's well-being is paramount among them. Although Ginny's romantic relationships do not mirror Rory Gilmore's, her reaction to her parents' will-they-won't-they relationship is similar. Just like Rory, Ginny doesn't want the tension between her parents to come between her and them. Plus, Ginny doesn't want Zion to leave again – and to his credit, he's better at it than Christopher. But a failed relationship between Zion and Georgia could complicate things, and Ginny is already in a vulnerable position.
The reunion between Georgia and Siam would also seem repetitive, since Gina and Georgia already addresses her lingering feelings in the first season. Unless the Netflix show intends to take the pair to the endgame – and that doesn't appear to be the direction it's taking – it should avoid returning to that possibility. Georgia's relationships with Paul and Joe are more interesting, and Zion's girlfriend also seems like a positive development for him. Gina and Georgia shouldn't shake things up for the sake of drama, especially when the series has enough chaos to contend with in season three and beyond.
