Lex Luthor has been one of the most important characters in the DC Universe, and I can’t believe it Superman and Lois in fact, it made me worry about her love life in the last episode. Although this version of Lex Luthor has virtually nothing in common with the Michael Rosenbaum iteration that was featured in the smallville, the series started to make me feel invested in similar ways. As the series draws to a close, it’s compelling to see some small parallels between the two disparate series and their version of this villain.
Through some SmallvilleOf the most rewatchable episodes, the character Lex became one of the most complex and interesting. This led to compelling romance subplots that occurred with several characters, most notably Lana Lang. Although this version of the villain was much more humanized than the one played by Michael Cudlitz, it is compelling to see the character become romantically involved. This makes for a very human but disturbing new version of the famous character from Superman and Lois.
Lex Luthor Superman and Lois romance repeats the success of the Smallville story
Lex’s romances were one of the most important features of Smallville
See Lex Luthor being revealed to be romantically linked to Amanda McCoy in Superman and Lois episode 8 is a perfect way to build audience engagement with the character. While Lex is certainly an evil force, and Amanda appears to be as well, it’s exciting to see human characters connecting with one another. After countless horrific and destructive actions, it’s important to see that this Lex is a human being, and this allows the audience to invest in him in unexpected ways despite his actions.
This was one of the most convincing parts Smallville. Audiences knew Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex would become Superman’s archenemy, but the path to that was made more tragic by giving him moments and human connections along the way. While Rosenbaum left Smallville After Season 7, many of its most important storylines were tied to Lana Lang, contributing to a complex portrayal of the historical villain. This contributed to making him one of the most celebrated versions of the character.
Superman & Lois’ Lex Luthor Romance Is Very Different From Smallville’s In Some Key Ways
There are still big differences between character iterations
The biggest difference between Smallville’s Lex Luthor and Superman and Lois‘ Lex Luthor is where they are on their villain journey. While there are certainly complex details and events that occur with Rosenbaum’s Lex, Smallville it doesn’t open with him as the villain. Instead, the show and Lex’s dark Smallvile The path slowly turned tragic as audiences got the chance to see Lex as Clark’s friend. I found this version so compelling because of how expectations contributed to the coming tragedy and how I didn’t want this Lex to fall victim to evil.
Meanwhile, Cudlitz’s Lex is as evil as they come. Furthermore, his relationship with Amanda McCoy was only built to foster the same evil, anger and hatred. Unlike Rosenbaum’s Lex, whose most prominent relationship was with the truly good Lana Lang, Lex and Amanda are capable of contributing to each other’s anger. This novel feels destructive and comes from a violent, disturbing hatred. From here on out, especially with the much more truncated screen time for this novel, it would actually be more tragic if the villain wasn’t squashed by the end of the series.
I’m so interested to see how Superman and Lois’ Lex Luthor romance affects the show’s ending
The path for Luthor’s character remains to be seen
Giving Lex Luthor a romance in these last few episodes helps humanize the character. However, there are several ways this romance could be used to contribute to the show’s ending. On the one hand, this romance brings the two villains together more inherently, allowing their mutual destruction to be all the more satisfying, should it occur. On the other hand, it gives depth to the villain and shows that he is capable of love and connection. If there is a point of redemption for this Lex, I believe it will certainly emerge from this relationship.
It’s important that the rest of the series, like season 4 Superman and Lois theories suggested, remember the series is about Superman and Lois, not Lex and Amanda. However, Giving the villain a point of comparison to the hero’s humanity is an excellent way to tie together the end of the show. Whether with an even greater descent into evil and hatred, or with moments of redemption, the contrast between the program’s most important couples can influence the program’s conclusion.
I can’t wait to see how Superman and Lois ends, although I’m really distressed that the show won’t be in my life soon. These versions of these characters were an excellent contribution to the superhero canonand seeing new looks at life and love through the eyes of its heroes and villains has been an important part of that. However Superman and Lois ends, I’m excited to see how these stories contribute to the show’s broader structure and its ultimate climax.
