Warning! Contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Rule 2 #4
I have to admit, Marvel has me with the latest swerve into the dystopian Spider-Man series, Spider-Man: Rule 2with these Revealing that the estranged father of Felicia Hardy’s daughter and replacement as Black Cat, Kitty-Cat, is actually Miles Morales. Although I was shocked by the reinvention of the familiar dynamics of the characters, I am also very excited to find out where the creative team of this book takes this unexpected family unit.
GamesRader released a preview for Spider-Man Rain 2 #4 – Written and Illustrated by Kaare Andrews – Finds Kitty-Cat and Spider-Man sent into the past by the Green Goblin, to prevent a dystopic reality where Kingpin controls New York and what’s left of humanity. Spider-Man is forced to fight an older, stronger version of his former protĂ©gĂ©, Miles Morales, and is horribly battered, but is saved when Kitty-Cat stops the fight and reveals that Miles Morales is her father.
I was already amazed by the introduction of Kitty-Cat as Black Cat’s daughter, after her impromptu kiss with old Peter Parker, but the revelation of her being Miles Morales’ daughter left me with a whole new set of questions.
Spider-Man’s New Black Cat Shows That This Continuity’s Version Of Miles Morales Is Not The Best Father
Spider-Man: Rule 2 #4; Story and art by Kaare Andrews, color by Brian Reber and letters by Joe Caramagna
It’s undeniable that every aspect of the Reign Universe is depicted as beyond morbid, from the dystopian authoritarian New York government to the tragic death of Mary Jane, but I was hoping that Miles Morales, my favorite Spider-Man, would be spared from The Rain Universe. Pain. It’s clear that Miles has hardened into a more ruthless version of himself when, during his reunion with his daughter, Kitty divulges that Miles killed her mother and she’s been running from him all her life.

in Spider-Man: Rule 2 #1, it is suggested that Miles had a turbulent history with Kingpin, and possibly worked with the tyrant overlord before retiring. Kitty and Miles’ brief interaction creates a rift between them and hints at how he hurts both her and her mother. In the past. After the revelation of Miles and Kitty’s story, the kiss between Kitty and old Peter in Spider-Man Rain 2 #1 makes me laugh not only because he is much older than her, but because she is the daughter of Peter’s ex-girlfriend and former student.
I’m fascinated by this unexpected Miles Morales/Felicia Hardy twist
Spider-Man Rule 2 #1-3 – Available now from Marvel Comics
One reason I can’t believe Miles Morales and Felicia have a child together is because Miles and Felicia have yet to interact in the main Earth-616 story in any consequential way. The two have spoken but only briefly, and Felicia is significantly older than Miles, making their inferred coupling incredibly unpredictable – but that’s what makes the Rule Reimaging of Spider-Man Study so fascinating. The Rule Universe has drastically changed many qualities of the well-known Spider-Man studySuch as Mary Jane becomes the pure universe gift.

This is a hardened and older version of Miles Morales, but the age difference between Felicia Hardy and Miles leads me to believe that Kitty and Felicia were taken by Miles Morales, as opposed to a romance between Miles and Felicia. While Miles helping Kitty and Black Cat makes sense for his character, I think the whole of the Spider-Man: Rule Series proves that the writers will not shy away from an uncomfortable story. Peter and Kitty Kat jump into an alternative future to prevent an apocalypse has already changed the fate of many characters from the original story.
I like how the new Black Cat being Miles Morales’ daughter changes the status quo of “Reign”
This series has me waiting for more answers
Kitty-Cat is the first character of the Spider-Man: Rule series to play an active role in the story that does not appear in the main Marvel Universe, which signifies a big departure from the original status quo. Although the first Spider-Man: Rule Series was suffocatingly dark, I enjoyed the conclusive end of Peter Parker returned as Spider-Man. Spider-Man: Rule 2 changed Spider-Man’s optimistic ending and reeled me back into his bleak world, in light of this, I hope the introduction of Kitty as the daughter of Miles Morales ends on a positive note rather than a dejected dystopian one..
Spider-Man: Rule 2 #4 Will be available October 16, 2024 from Marvel Comics!
