Humanity may be doomed after what happened at the end of Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Warning: this article contains spoilers Sonic the Hedgehog 3

In a year full of sequels and franchise films, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 quickly became one of the most beloved, continuing the story created in the previous two films while introducing several classics Sonic characters and almost destroying the world. The film's story sees Sonic face off against Shadow, a darker version of himself, who wants to destroy all life on Earth for what was done to him. Sonic the Hedgehog 3The ending is bittersweet, with the heroes finally saving the day, but there's one aspect of it that could end up spelling doom for humanity.

Sonic 3The characters are its main selling point, as Shadow's introduction was a huge hit with fans of Sonic outside of the films, and featuring Gerald, despite being a much lesser-known character Sonic character, gave Jim Carrey an even bigger role for him to play. Sonic 3 has a lot of Easter eggs and references to video games, and one of the biggest in the film is exactly what could see humanity in a terrible state when the next Sonic the Hedgehog 4 dove.

Gerald Robotnik's laser cut off part of the moon in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and that's really bad for humanity

Losing the Moon would cause several major problems for Earth

During Sonic 3At the end of, Gerald Robotnik's plan is foiled when the Eclipse Cannon's laser is redirected to hit the Moon instead of Earth. Although this would be a better outcome, it would have a number of negative effects, the most significant being the fact that the moon is what keeps the Earth's tilt stable relative to its orbit around the sungiving us a predictable climate and seasons. Without it, the Earth's tilt would fluctuate uncontrollably, causing enormous climate changes, as the planet's position in relation to the Sun would be constantly changing, becoming even more dangerous than the climate change we know today.

The Moon's best-known impact on Earth is its effect on tides, which would disappear when the Moon was destroyed after Sonic 3from the live-action recreation "Live and Learn." While this may not seem like a big deal, it would end up destroying many coastal ecosystems around the world. Tides stir up material in the water, allowing creatures that live on shores to surviveand without them there would end up being a domino effect, causing land and sea animals that depend on this food source to become extinct.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 shouldn't ignore the destruction of the Moon

The movie should do something to explain why it ended up being good

While Sonic 3The post-credits scene confirms that the fourth film will focus on Amy and Metal Sonic, there should still be some resolution to this plot point. It doesn't have to be long, just a line that explains that GUN used some sort of sci-fi technology to solve the problems, or that the Moon's gravity is holding all the material that was destroyed in place.

Anything would work, as long as the sequel doesn't end up simply ignoring the consequences of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Otherwise, the events of the third film would seem a little less impactful.
