The fourth entry in the romantic comedy series based on the novels by Helen Fielding, the 2025 movie is based on the 2013 novel of the same name. Grant will return as Daniel Cleaver 20 years after his last appointment in Bridget Jones: The Edge of ReasonWith 2016s Game Bridget Jones Baby Leaving him as presumed dead due to an off-screen plane crash until his final moments.
with Bridget Jones: Mad about the boy Grant was released on Valentine’s Day 2025 Screen Rant Regarding the likelihood of Firth’s return as he attended the premiere of his upcoming horror feature, heresies, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Is Hugh Grant right about Colin Firth’s potential Bridget Jones return?
The movies have had a history of deviating from the books significantly
For Grant and his own experience with the Bridget Jones movie series, his skepticism about Firth is not coming back Bridget Jones: Mad about the boy is understandable. Grant was outspoken about being unimpressed by the earlier scripts for the movie that would become Game Bridget Jones BabyRising out of the project and leading to Clever is written off as presumed dead until his survival is confirmed a year later by the film’s ending. As such, with his own character receiving such a creative exclusion, he may feel that Firth may receive the same.
Mark’s fate is rooted in personal reasoning for Fielding.
While the movies took liberties with the lore of Fielding’s novels, as seen with Cleaver’s omission and replacement in Game Bridget Jones BabyMark’s fate is rooted in personal reasoning for Fielding. The 2013 novel that Bridget Jones: Mad about the boy is set to adapt to Mark killed in a landmine incident, which is inspired by Fielding’s own experiences with how life can be unpredictable through her loss of experience. As such, although past movies have made clear deviations from their source material, it is likely that Mark’s death will remain.
Although the casting announcement for Bridget Jones: Mad about the boy Confirming that Mark’s fate will remain true to the novel, Grant may not be entirely wrong in assuming Firth may return, albeit in a smaller appearance. Although controversial, the movie carefully handles Mark’s death using the advantages that the medium of film offers, allowing Firth to return through flashbacks as characters reminisce about his and Bridget’s life. As such, a return to the franchise by Firth may not yet be out of the cards, as Grant suggests.
