What changed in Diablo 4 Vessel Of Hatred and Season 6
Explore new options for difficulty settings
From the 6th season of Devil 4, there are no more world levels 1-4 for you to unlock with any character. Instead, there are four main difficulties selectable at any time while you play, called:
- Normal – default settings
- Hard – 75% more XP and Gold
- Specialist – 125% more XP and Gold
- Penitent – 175% more XP and Gold
When starting a new game, you can choose any of these difficulties. You are not limited to just Normal or Hard like world levels 1 and 2 represented in the past. This time you can access a shrine in any major city you unlock to change its difficulty at any time. You it is not always necessary to use the Shrine of Inarius in Kyovashad do this more, reducing tedious travel time.
Similar to how world levels changed aspects of the game, higher difficulties increase enemy aggression, health, and damage to make your adventure more challenging.
More difficulties beyond the Penitent, called Torment difficultiescan be unlocked by completing levels of The Pit, a returning megadungeon from the series. The Pit is unlocked when one of your characters reaches level 60, the maximum possible level for any build. You can find the Well in Cerrigar, accessible through the Artificer’s Obelisk, where you can select the difficulty level you wish to challenge certain layers of the dungeon.
There is four levels of Torment that you can unlockeach with their own reward increases similar to increasing base difficulties. You have to clean certain well levels to make these levels available, with the higher ones locked behind more challenging layers of The Pit. Here are all the Torment tiers, along with their loot rewards and how to unlock them:
Torment Level |

Torment 2 |
|
Clear Well Level 35 |
Torment 3 |

As you can see, the rewards for Torment levels increase dramatically as they progress, but they also greatly weaken your character’s defenses. This challenge makes it more difficult to survive enemy encounters, so you need to play carefully on these higher difficulties. Although you can no longer unlock World Tier 3: Nightmare in Devil 4these Torment settings will still test your skills in a similar way.
