While your skills and behaviors can identify many ghosts in Phasmophobia and the speed at which they move during a hunt, some ghosts, such as Yurei, do not have specific information during the hunt that can help players identify them easily. In PhasmophobiaPlayers usually locate the ghost’s room and use equipment to collect evidence. Each of the 24 ghosts in Phasmophobia provides three unique pieces of evidence that can help identify them. Each ghost also has its own special abilities and hunting behaviors that can give them away.
The Yurei is an incredibly evidence-dependent ghost in Phasmophobiafor, unlike most ghosts, nothing about his hunting behavior gives him away. In a typical Phasmophobia contract on Amateur, Intermediate, or Professional difficulty, Yurei will provide the following three pieces of evidence: Ghost Orbs, Freezing Temperatures, and DOTS Projector. However, on higher difficulty levels where evidence is hidden, or in certain Challenge modes, players will have to wait for Yurei to use his ability or use his weakness against him.
How to identify a Yurei by its abilities
Pay attention to the doors
Phasmophobia Yurei has the unique ability to Instantly drains 15% of a player’s sanity. This ability is linked to closing nearby doors; If Yurei uses her sanity drain ability, a door will also close. Yurei can completely close the door on ghost hunts and events. While all ghosts can technically do this, many will choose to open the doors or move them slightly rather than closing them completely.
Additionally, when other ghosts close the door outside of an event or ghost hunt, there will not be a sanity drain effect. If a door slams nearby, players may want to check their sanity. If it has decreased significantly, the ghost is probably a Yurei.
Unlike other ghosts in Phasmophobia, Yurei can also close exit doors to the building outside of events and ghost hunts. No other ghost can do this. When checking for a Yurei, consider leaving the exit doors open. If they close but a ghost hunt or event does not begin, the ghost is almost certainly a Yurei.
In rooms without usable doors, such as hallways, open tents in Maple Lodge and Camp Woodwind, and some rooms in Brownstone High School, Sunny Meadows, and the Prison, Yurei will never use its ability. It is possible to be incredibly unlucky and have a Yurei in one of these rooms. In cases like this, players will want to keep an eye on exit doors, discard all other ghosts through various testing strategies, or use Yurei’s weakness to try to identify him instead of.
Strategies for discovering a Yurei without evidence
Best Methods for Finding a Yurei
In addition to leaving the door open to testing a Yurei without evidence, players can also use the Yurei’s weakness to identify it. In the diary, Yurei’s weakness is listed as follows: Staining Yurei’s death location will temporarily trap him, reducing how much he wanders.
When trying to dispose of a Yurei, one strategy is to place motion and salt sensors at each exit point from the ghost’s room, then use smudge sticks or incense to potentially trap the ghost there. Outside of ghost events, if it is a Yurei, the ghost cannot leave the room for 90 seconds. Assuming the motion sensors don’t go off and the salt outside the room remains intact for about 90 seconds, players can comfortably select Yurei as the ghost haunting the building.
