Baldur's Gate 3 is a game full of secret interactions and hidden quests, and the Githyanki egg you can get in the first act comes with both. If you complete a few interactions correctly, you can make the egg hatch and interact with its occupant. To get started, you will need to complete the majority of Act One and head through the mountain pass to the Githyanki Nursery.
The Creche contains a training ground and hatchery for the Githyanki in BG3becoming a true fortress for this group of Gith soldiers. You can steal one of the Gith eggs from the nursery, much to Lae'zel's disdain. What you choose to do with it will determine the child's fate.
Where to find the Githyanki egg in Baldur's Gate 3
Enter the nursery and find the hatchery
At the end of Act One, or when you reach the northwest part of the map, you will find a group of Githyanki soldiers and a Dragon Rider. After your party finishes this interaction, Lae'zel will mention the Daycare Center if she hasn't already, so continue heading north towards the mountains. At Mountain Pass, you will meet a merchant named Lady Esther who will ask you to steal an egg from the Creche.
If you agree, continue on the path until you reach Rosymorn Monastery. In the monastery, there are a few interactions you need to complete before you have free reign to roam around, so complete them however works for you.
They have no influence on the outcome of the egg situation, so proceed as you wish. When you can, take the hallway to the left of the entrance and then the next right to reach the Hatchery.
How to get the egg from the hatchery
You will either resist the poison or be able to fly
When you arrive at the Hatchery, you will have two options. You can jump or fly through the pools of acid to steal the Gith egg, or you can talk to Varsh Ko'kuu and try to convince him to give you an egg. To have the option of persuading him to give it to you, you'll need to pass an Insight test that appears automatically when you ask why the birthing chamber is so devoid of eggs.
As long as you pass, you can follow the line of dialogue that lets you ask Ko'kuu about the egg and then another line to convince him to give it to you. Each option involves a Persuasion check, DC 14 (“I will raise you as if you were my own flesh and blood.“) and CD 16 (“I'll find another daycare. One that is more forgiving.“) respectively, but if you succeed at both, you can get the egg without violence or harming the rest of the Githyanki Nursery.
If you want to steal the egg, Taking it without asking will make the entire Day Care Center – and Lae'zel, although she doesn't attack you – upset with you. If you're already struggling to survive, this choice doesn't matter much, but if you're trying to keep your presence discreet here, talking to Ko'kuu is the best option.
What to do with the egg once you get it
Go back to talk to Lady Esther and refuse to give her the egg
After successfully obtaining the egg by whatever means you choose, you must speak to Lady Esther again to tell her of your success. Lady Esther will ask for the Githyanki egg so she can sell it to the Fellowship of the Brilliance in Baldur's Gate. Now you have a decision to make.
To keep the Githyanki egg, you will need to make one of two choices. If you categorically refuse to give Lady Esther the egg, she will become angry enough with you to attack. You can fight and kill her, which will end the mission here. Additionally, Dark Urge Origin will have a unique option: you can destroy the egg in front of her by sending it off the cliff.
Your other option is to persuade her to take the Owlbear egg that you can get at the start of the quest to save baby Owlbear. She will relatively readily agree to your plan to trick the Shine Society by taking the Owlbear's egg out of their hands. For a full summary of this conversation. Now that you have secured the Gith egg, you are on your way to hatching it.
How to hatch the Gith egg
All possible outcomes for the Githyanki egg
This next step won't come into play until late in the game, so be patient. Before going to the Netherbrain fight, you will want to make sure Lae'zel has the Githyanki egg in her inventory. This means she will have everything for the post-fight scene, where everyone goes their separate ways.
At this point, what happens will depend on whether you and Lae'zel are in a relationship and whether you decide to let her keep the egg. The different endings that the egg can have if it is not donated or destroyed by this point are:
Illness |
End |
---|---|
You and Lae'zel stay together and raise the cub. |
You care for the child, whom Lae'zel names”Xan“, which means “Freedom“in Gith, together. |
You and Lae'zel are not together, but she raises the cub. |
Lae'zel mentions that the child is named “Xan” and that he is being raised well with freedom of choice. |
Lae'zel heads to the Astral Plane to fight Vlaakith's tyranny. |
She leaves Xan with the wizards of Xamvadi'm, who will care for and raise him. She says she's letting him choose his own destiny. |
The egg is neither given to Lae'zel nor donated. |
The party will stay at the Elfsong Tavern, leaving the egg in a chest. You will hear news of a newborn Gith crawling through the Tavern later. |
All these endings will be revealed to you in Baldur's Gate 3The epilogue is when you meet Lae'zel again. Here, you'll be able to chat with Withers and the rest of the group to see what everyone has been up to since you split up. It appears that Lae'zel's journey with you through Baldur's Gate 3 It taught her a lot, and her satisfaction in being able to break her society's pattern of behavior was nothing but healing for her.
