How to get Hatenna in Pokémon GO: Evolution and Shiny Availability

Hatenna is the last Pokemon from the Galar region to arrive Pokémon GOMeaning you can also evolve it into Hattrem and Hatterene once you’ve caught one. Known as the Calm Pokemon in the Pokédex, this Psychic-type creature may not be very impressive on its own, but once it reaches its final evolution, Hatterene, it gains a secondary Fairy-type and a huge attack stat to boot.

To celebrate the return of the Psychic Spectacular event from September 18 to September 22, 2024, the Psychic Cup will return to the GO Battle League and there will be plenty of themed Pokemon like Ralts and Swirlix to meet. One of those Pokemon is Hatenna, making its big Pokemon GO debut, though it won’t be the easiest creature to find, as it’s quite a rare wild spawn.

The simplest way to catch a Hatenna during the psychic spectacular event is to Find one in the wildAlthough it is worth pointing out that it will be a rare spawn, similar to Drapey in the last GO All Out event. A good idea is to check the nearby feature and see if there are Hatenna-shaped silhouettes near your current location, then go and investigate them.

If you’re struggling to find one in the wild, there are other ways you can encounter a Hatenna. A guaranteed option is to Complete the two event-exclusive Collection challengesMarvelous Minds: Catch and Marvelous Minds: Evolve. These require you to catch or evolve a range of Pokemon, with a Hatenna reward encounter waiting for you at the end of each Collection Challenge.

Another guaranteed way to find a Hatenna is to Complete the Psychic Spectacular 2024 Premium Timed ResearchWhich needs to be purchased from the in-game store for £1.99 (or the equivalent price in your local currency). This features a mix of tasks involving catching and hatching teams, with rewards including encounters with Morelull and Hatenna.

It is also possible to earn a meeting with Hatenna by claiming and Completing the ‘Win a Max Battle’ field research task. This task can only be claimed by spinning PokéStops or Gym Discs during the Psychic Spectacular event. Remember, you can always delete field research tasks that you no longer want to make room for more.

Finally, Hatenna will appear as a potential hatch from 7km eggs obtained during the Psychic Spectacular event. This method is not guaranteed, because there is also a chance that you will hatch Maville, Chingling or Espurr from 7 km eggs during this event.

7km eggs can only be obtained from gifts sent to you by friends in Pokémon GO. Make sure you have room in your egg box before opening a gift, as you can only carry nine eggs at a time.

It’s currently unknown how often Hatenna will appear in the wild once the Psychic Spectacular event is over, so if you’re eager to add one to your collection and evolve it, make sure you grab them before the event ends. You may struggle to find them after this point.

You can evolve Hatenna into Hattrem with 25 candies, and then evolve Hatenna into Hatterene with another 100 candies. There are no special items or buddy tasks required to complete any of the evolution processes, so it’s simply a case of stocking up on enough Hatenna Candy.

While this may sound simple on paper, it can be much trickier in practice, as Hatenna will not be a very common inflammation in Pokémon GO. Remember to use Pinap Berries when you catch them for a candy boost, and transfer any Hatenna you don’t need for a small candy reward. You can also set Hatenna as your Buddy Pokemon to find candy while exploring together. The distance required to find candy will be displayed on your buddy page.

Can Hatenna be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Not yet, but it will be added at some point in the future

Hattena and Shiny Hattena in Pokemon GO

unfortunately, Blank Hatenna is currently unavailable to meet in Pokémon GO. It’s very rare for a new creature to debut alongside its Shiny variation. Developer Niantic tends to hold back for future events like Community Days or themed celebrations to build hype and give trainers another reason to raise them further down the line.

It is impossible to say when this will happen, but there is often at least a year between a regular debut and a shiny debut in Pokémon GOSo it may be a while to wait. For now, regular Hatenna will have to do, so get out there and catch as many as you can.
